Unraveling the Mysteries of Fairy Tale Spell Bonds

By admin

In fairy tales, the spell bond between characters often plays a pivotal role in driving the narrative forward. This bond is usually formed through a magical spell or enchantment and serves to connect two or more characters in a unique and transformative way. The fairy tale spell bond can take various forms and have different effects on the characters involved. One common type of spell bond is the curse or enchantment that transforms a character into a different form. This transformation can serve as a punishment or test for the character and often sets them on a journey to break the spell. For instance, in the tale of Beauty and the Beast, the Beast is cursed to live in the form of a monstrous creature until someone learns to love him for who he truly is.

Letters from Rapunzel. By Sara Lewis Holmes. 2007. 192p. HarperCollins, $15.99 (9780060780739).
Gr. 5–7. In this thoroughly modern spin on the familiar tale, teen Rapunzel is trapped in an after-school homework club where she sits and worries about her father, who seems to have had a spell cast on him. The spell turns out to be depression, and when Rapunzel finds a letter addressed to a post office box, she decides to write back in search of her own happily ever after. The story’s epistolary format gives it immediacy.

In addition to McKinley s book below, other retellings of Sleeping Beauty include Orson Scott Card s Enchantment Ballantine, 1999 , Robert Coover s Briar Rose Grove, 1996 , Gail Carson Levine s Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep HarperCollins, 1999 , and Jane Yolen s Briar Rose Tor, 1992. For some reason, I actually found that portion, which comprised the first third of the novel, more emotionally compelling than the fantasy aspects that come later in the novel.

For instance, in the tale of Beauty and the Beast, the Beast is cursed to live in the form of a monstrous creature until someone learns to love him for who he truly is. This spell bond between Beauty and the Beast drives the plot as Beauty develops a bond with the Beast, eventually breaking the curse and revealing his true identity. Another type of spell bond is one that creates a connection between characters, often forming a deep emotional bond.

Fairy Tail High
9:05 AM
Lucy's POV:

It's been a week since school started, and I didn't realize how challenging Fairy Tail would be. Especially magic classes. Don't get me started on how many times I've gotten my butt-kicked. Almost everyone in that class is way better than me, especially Erza. I hope I don't have to fight her anytime soon because she's just plain scary.

"Alright, class, I hope you had a relaxing weekend. I'm expecting all of you have done your homework. You had to try to learn three new spells based on your magic ability and write a quick summary about the experience."

"Learning those spells took forever. I'm so glad I got everything finished in time." I thought to myself in relief.

"Now, please pass up your papers."

The class proceeded to pass their papers up to Mr. Mystogan. Everyone turned something in except Natsu.

"Mr. Dragneel, where's your summary paper?"

"I didn't do it," Natsu stated bluntly.

Natsu rolled his eyes, "Because I had other things to do."

Mystogan sighed, "Alright, Natsu, I'm going to be generous since it's the beginning of the year. I'll give you three more days to complete it, but if you do not have it by then, you will surely fail this class. Do you understand Mr. Dragneel?"

"Yeah, don't worry, Mr. Mystogan. I'll have it by then."

"Now, class, let's continue where we left off last week. Let me remind you I will be choosing the groups you will be working in after I determine each of your magic levels. You will be working with your groups when you've been assigned missions. You will have your partners for small assignments such as classwork. Now that I've cleared things up let's begin."

I looked around the classroom and saw how anxious everyone was to hear who would be competing.

'Please don't pick me, please. ' I thought to myself as I crossed my fingers.

"Today's competitors are Natsu and Lucy."

I face slammed against my desk and groaned in annoyance. 'Why me!? Out of all people, did he have to pick Natsu?'

I knew Natsu, and I were on better terms now. But from what I've seen, he's power, and I didn't want to get my butt-kicked again.

"Alright now, get into fighting positions."

Me and Natsu stood from our desks and went to the front of the classroom.

"Just a warning, I won't go easy on you, blondie," Natsu said while giving me a mischievous smirk.

I returned the smirk, "Wouldn't dream of it, Natsu."

Me and Natsu got into fighting positions. He gave me a smirk and chuckled when he noticed me staring at him. I quickly turned away and grabbed one of my keys.

"Here I go. OPEN GATE OF THE GOLDEN BULL, TAURUS. "

A large cow appeared, carrying a giant ax.

"What can I do for you, Miss Lucy?"

"A giant cow? Are we having steak for lunch?!"

"Is your stomach all that you think about!?"

"Yeah, pretty much," Natsu said with a shrug.

"Taurus, show him who's the boss around here!" I growled.

"Of course, babe," Taurus said with a flirtatious wink, which made me sick to my stomach.

I sighed, "Just get him already. "

"I'm all fired up now!"

Taurus charged toward Natsu with his big ax and aimed to swing him. But by the time he did, Natsu had already moved.

"You should watch where you aim, you big cow. Or else someone might get hurt."

Natsu's hands were on fire as he gave Taurus a couple of punches to the face. Taurus tried to dodge them, but Natsu was too quick. Taurus gave Natsu a swift punch to the stomach. Natsu groaned in pain, and he suddenly fell to the floor. Taurus approached him, and Natsu quickly got back on his feet.

Natsu gave Taurus a smirk before preparing one final move. "FIRE DRAGON ROAR. "

Natsu's powerful fire breath sent Taurus flying across the room. I ran to Taurus's side and saw how badly he was beaten.

"Taurus!" I exclaimed.

"I'm sorry, Miss Lucy. I failed you. "

"It's okay, Taurus. Just go back and rest."

Taurus nodded before disappearing in a beam of light.

Suddenly a shock of pain rang throughout my body as Natsu's fist made contact with my stomach. I gagged before falling to the floor.

"Oh shit! I didn't mean to punch her. I got too into the moment." Natsu panicked.

Natsu quickly ran to Lucy's side and held her hand as Mr. Mystogan came over to check on her.

"Will she be alright? I-I swear I didn't mean to. "

I slowly opened my eyes and winced as I felt pain once again. "W-What happened?"

"Are you alright, Miss Heartfillia? You gave us such as fright."

"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about me." I said reassuringly.

Natsu helped me up and put an arm around my waist. I felt heat rising to my cheeks as Natsu helped me to my desk.

"It's the least I can do since I punched you."

Natsu sat back at his desk and looked away from everyone's gaze.

The class continued as usual, and after an hour of lectures, the school bell finally rang.

"That's the bell. Class is dismissed." The teacher declared.

Everyone stood from their desks and prepared to leave. Natsu quickly grabbed his bag and avoided eye contact with me as he left the room.

Walking down the hall to my next class, I heard a familiar voice calling, "Hey, Dragneel!"

I turned and saw Gajeel giving me a blank expression. I sighed and said, "Look, Gajeel, this is all the money I have."

I grabbed the bag of gems in my pocket and passed it to Gajeel.

"I know, but don't worry about the price."

"It's okay; I'll handle the rest."

My eyes widened, and I stared in shock. 'What the fuck! Is Gajeel trying to be nice?!'

"Wait. But I don't know how to repay you for this."

"Well, you do owe me a song," Gajeel muttered

"Never mind, I'll tell you another time. See you later, Dragneel!" Gajeel said as he walked away

'What was all that about?' I thought to myself, still trying to process what just happened.

Two classes later.
Break period
Courtyard
12:32 PM
Lucy's POV:

After hours of boring classes, we were lucky enough to get a small break since one of the teachers left unexpectedly that day. Erza, Levy, and I sat near a few trees in the courtyard as we took in some needed fresh air.

"I can't believe that Mrs. Hilda left suddenly like that."

Levy looked up from the book she was reading. "Well, at least we're getting a break. Mrs. Hilda's history class was always hard anyway."

Erza only sighed as she leaned against a nearby tree.

"Too bad Juvia and Lisanna have different classes. Then we could all have a little break."

"Yeah, I guess. Speaking of which, Lucy, are you alright? I saw what Natsu did, and believe me, if I could, I would've given him a beating right there." Erza said as she crunched her knuckles together.

"Erza, I'm fine. Natsu apologized for it, and I've been through worst beatings. Last week Gray literally gave me a brain freeze!"

Erza chuckled, "I know. But if he ever does it again, he will meet my fists!"

I sighed as I looked towards the basketball court and saw the boys playing. They seemed to be arguing about who won and who would get the ball next.

I rolled my eyes, "Boys. "

I glanced over and saw Natsu sitting alone. 'I wonder what he's thinking about right now?' I thought to myself. But then I saw a blond-headed boy with piercings walk over to him.

"Hey Salamander, do you want to play with us?" He said with a smirk.

"No, not right now," Natsu said with his head down.

"Aww, come on. Are you afraid you're going to lose to me?"

"Just leave me alone, Sting. I'm not in the mood."

"What's gone up your ass Dragneel? I thought you weren't afraid of a challenge?"

"Look, man, I'm not in the mood for your shit today. So why don't you just fuck off!" Natsu hissed.

Sting continued to taunt him. "Looks like someone is getting mad."

Natsu lunged forward and started to attack Sting. Sting quickly kicked him off and grabbed Natsu by his hair.

"Damn it! I'm still too weak from this morning's magic class." Natsu thought to himself.

"Your pathetic. " Sting growled.

Sting and the rest of his friends ganged up on Natsu and began to beat him up. This made everyone stop playing and watch as the fight escalated.

"What's wrong, Natsu? Am I too strong for you!?"

"Hey, that's enough!"

Gray grabbed Sting by his shoulders and forced him to face him. "What's your deal man!?"

"Stay out of this!"

Erza clenched her fists, and a dark aura surrounded her.

"That's enough!" Erza came over and grabbed Sting by his ear before dragging him away.

"Ow! What the hell?!"

"This is unacceptable, Sting; nobody likes a bully! Now I'll show you a beating you'll never forget!"

"Guys! Save me!" Sting screamed as Erza dragged him away.

I quickly ran over to Gray and Natsu. "Are you guys okay?"

Gray shook his head and said. "Yeah, I'm fine. But we should probably get him to the nurse."

"No, it's okay. I got him."

Gray sighed in defeat before turning to leave. "Alright, I'll see you guys later."

Once Gray was gone, I heaved Natsu up and steadily helped him to the nurse's office.

"Lucy, I'm fine. You don't have to help me." Natsu grumbled.

"Natsu, I'm doing this because I want to. I'm not going to let you walk around injured like this!"

This was entirely true since Natsu's face was completely covered in scratches.

"Man, why do girls have to be so stubborn?"

"Hey!" I exclaimed as Natsu chuckled slightly.

Later at lunch.
Natsu's POV:

After Lucy got bandages from the nurse, she refused to leave my side. She even skipped hanging out with her friends to help me.

She took my knuckles and wrapped bandages around them with her soft hands. I felt heat rising to my cheeks, "Am I blushing?" She quickly finished and put my hand down. I immediately missed the warmth of her hands on mine.

"All done," Lucy said with a smile.

'She has a cute smile.' I immediately realized what I had just thought and felt myself becoming embarrassed.

I shook the feeling off, 'What the hell is wrong with me?'

"T-Thanks.." I stuttered, immediately looking away from Lucy's gaze.

I noticed a hint of pink on Natsu's cheeks as he turned away from me. Was he blushing? I thought he was the big loner of the school. I guess he does have a soft side. It was funny how he tried hiding his blush with his scarf. 'It's official; Natsu is cute.'

"Aww, Natsu. You don't have to be shy with me."

I couldn't help but giggle at his nervousness.

"But really-Thanks, Lucy."

"No problem. Let's just say it's a thank you."

"For saving my life."

"It was nothing really," Natsu said sheepishly.

There were a few moments of silence until I spoke up again. "Well, would you like me to help you with your summary after school? I'm a pretty good writer."

Natsu's face perked up, "Really?"

"Well, I guess, but. "

"Great! We can start after school."

"Wait!" Natsu grabbed my hand, and I turned around to look at him.

"W-Why are you being so nice to me? Didn't your friends tell you what I'm like?" Natsu asked hesitantly.

"Because I really want to get to know the real you. Not the Natsu everyone tells me about."

Natsu was silent for a moment before saying, "Thank you, Lucy. That means a lot to me."

The bell rang, signaling that our next class was about to begin. Me and Natsu stood from the table and walked hand-in-hand to our next class. While we walked, I saw how happy Natsu looked. But the other thing I noticed was a slight shade of pink on his face. That's when I realized he was blushing.

To be continued.

Natsu helped me up and put an arm around my waist. I felt heat rising to my cheeks as Natsu helped me to my desk.
