A few words about myself and my tastes before I ask, I play a lot of adult games, generally speaking I don't read the story of adult games, I don't care, I care about the gameplay, the theme, the art, a lot of things but not the story, however when it comes to eastern visual novels I don't consider those to be adult games, even when they have gameplay

speaking of that, I started reading Fate Hollow Ataraxia at the request of someone I know and while it's not a bad VN, I do feel a craving to read a harem VN, but I want a harem VN with a protagonist that has more personality than a wet tissue and is a bit well not a lame protagonist, something like Evenicle, I really liked the way the harem was in that one, also I looking for eastern classic VNs not stuff like. well most of the stuff made on renpy, it can be a VN with or without gameplay doesn't really matter to me, I like both, it can be a serious VN or a nukige, it can be adult or all ages I'm open to taking any suggestions and I'll filter through them

Can you skip the dad daughter action and scenes with other male characters to go directly into lesbian action? Judging from the title and cover artwork, it's among the sort of games I'd least likely play.

Haven't come across many but Katawa Shoujo has some sad parts. My first no walkthrough run, I lucked out with Emi and wanted blood. Went for Hanako after that and there's a depressing push and pull to her, even in the happy route. And Don't get me started on Lilly's run (the feels).

Kana: Little Sister, won't spoil it but it has feels aplenty.

Personally though, Hitomi- My Stepsister stands above the others. I'd go from laughing like an idiot reading the choices to feeling guilty as sin watching them play out. One ending in particular is just plain fucked up.

Anyone played the game "Beth" (RAGS engine)? Main character (played by Mia Malkova) deals with multiple personalities (one of whom is of course a slut. ). It's all fun and games throughout the game, but bad endings are seriously dark.

The latest update was nothing but tragedy, missery & dispair. One of the love interests is already dead and another character has a terminal illness, so the odds of the game getting a happy ending are not looking too great.

I'm glad I didn't even download the latest update then. He's been getting darker and darker with every cliffhanger.
Why someone would build up the romance levels and then kill them off is beyond me. He thought this was a good idea?

Eien no Aselia had a part in ti that made me full out cry and no one dies. I'll spoiler it for those that haven't played it, be warned it is a pretty big plot point so don't read it if you ever plan on playing it.

I'll be honest, it doesn't take much to get me crying i'm a proper soppy bitch and I generally avoid heart rending stories for that very reason. Once I start I can't stop. I didn't have a bad childhood so it's not depression or PTSD doing it I just get into things and seeing someone upset makes me upset which is why I love romance stuff and hate anything over dramatic.

I have two and the first one I’m mentioning doesn’t have long depressing moments. It was imouto paradise 2 when you go through the bottom right route (I can’t remember her name, forgive me) when she locks herself in her room for days trying to figure out how to make you feel better. Also going through the loli sister route there is also sad. Also Sabbat of the witch made me cry in every route except Wakana’s route because nothing depressing happened in their storyline, minus her moving. It was a tug of the heart strings but I still loved it. I feel like only one of them had a true ending from all the after stories you play in the game.

Well, no VN/Game has ever made me suicidal and/or terribly depressed. That is kind of extreme, and it's rare I become emotionally invested that much in the story elements of most VN/Games in this market, that there was even a risk of those extreme feelings being present.

That being said, I've been disappointingly upset by some VN/Games. Or maybe a bit angrily disturbed a few minute times. But not to an extreme level.

Dual Family (regardless of how done it is or not) was one where I felt it greatly disappointed me. Which was sort of saddening. At first it was interesting, both in it's concept and some of it's story telling. But there eventually came a point where it felt like it focused too much on teasing mixed with depressed looking characters, and eventually began going over the top with a few characters, as well. It was the experience of these changes and other stuff, about half way through the content (on either side), that the VN/Game began to lose it's luster and/or appeal. It was the mix of depressing looking characters, the constant teasing, and a few disturbing character personality quirks that eventually made me quit playing it all together. It was a disappointing VN/Game, that had that initial potential, that the developers decided to squander. Intentional or not.

I was very disappointed with Dating My Daughter's Chapter 2. It seemed to go backwards slightly on some of the characters development, and also began to feel like it was just un-necessarily dragging out the story. Artificially prolonging everything, which began to feel stale. It lost many of the qualities that existed in the first chapter. Not all, but enough to make me feel very disappointed. I no longer follow it at all. I don't want to necessarily call it a milking project, but in some ways it kind of felt like it, once chapter 2 began rolling out.

There are others, where I was either sadly disappointed or emotionally torn, but never to the degree where I was emotionally scarred or depressed or felt like harming myself. Any person that is that moved by any work of fiction, most likely has other psychological or physiological issues they have to contend with. Being a bit emotional about some sad or moving event in a story is one thing, but the more extreme thoughts and emotional outcries are most likely symptomatic of other issues outside of the story's effects on the reader.
