The Magical Creatures in Badjelly the Witch

By admin

Badjelly the Witch is a children's story written by New Zealand poet and author Spike Milligan. It was first published in 1973. The story follows the adventures of two children, Tim and Rose, who venture into the forest to rescue their lost cow from the clutches of the evil witch, Badjelly. The story is filled with Milligan's trademark absurdity and nonsensical humor, making it a delight for both children and adults. From the moment Tim and Rose set foot in the forest, they encounter a host of eccentric and hilarious characters, including a talking skeleton, a bickering parrot, and a lovable giant called Binklebonk. Badjelly the Witch herself is a menacing and comical character, constantly outwitting the children with her spells and tricks.

Snuggle Piggy and the Magic Blanket

Snuggle Piggy is one cute pigno wonder his Aunt Daisy sewed him a cozy blanket ""full of all the creatures in the universe.'' She keeps it clean for him, knowing how much he likes it. What she doesn't know is that at night, after Snuggle Piggy is all tucked in, the creatures on the blanket come alive and play with him. They sing and dance and help him go to sleep. Then one day, after Aunt Daisy has hung up the washed blanket to dry, it begins to rain. The blanket stays outside, and Snuggle Piggy is forced to go to bed without it. He thinks he can hear the creatures on the blanket his friends calling for help. He saves them from the rain and brings them inside to warm up. A child's reason for loving a possession is beyond a parent's kenStepto and Himmelman together give this a lovable poignance that will make believers of most who encounter it. Ages 2-5. (April)

I bought this book for my son 20 years ago when he was 3. He loved it so much that, for Christmas this year, he gave his copy to his 14-month old niece. I ordered this so that he would have a copy for his own children.
The book arrived in excellent condition - all pages firmly bound with no blemishes or stains, no stains or marks on the cover or on the page edges.. Except for a compression on the spine, which likely happened in mailing, it looks like I just bought it at Barnes and Noble.

This is a wonderful and very sweet story. I bought a copy back in 1989 for my daughter and when she recently moved across country, she took it! I wanted another copy to have here at home and I was thrilled when I found it on Amazon. The seller did a great job in shipping it quickly and it is just as described. Thanks!

Reviews for "Why Badjelly the Witch Continues to Captivate Readers"

1. John - ★★☆☆☆
I must admit that I was quite disappointed with "Badjelly the witch". The storyline seemed rather confusing and lacked depth. The characters were one-dimensional and uninteresting. Additionally, the humor often fell flat, and the jokes failed to evoke any laughter from me. Overall, I couldn't connect with the story, and it left me feeling underwhelmed.
2. Sarah - ★☆☆☆☆
I found "Badjelly the witch" to be quite dull and unengaging. The illustrations were lackluster, and the writing style felt monotonous. The book seemed to drag on, and I struggled to maintain interest throughout. The supposed magical elements were far from enchanting and failed to captivate my imagination. Unfortunately, this book just wasn't for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to others.
3. Mark - ★★☆☆☆
"Badjelly the witch" didn't live up to my expectations. The rhymes felt forced, making it difficult to read aloud. The story lacked a cohesive plot and seemed to jump from one random event to another. The characters were forgettable, and I never felt invested in their journey. Ultimately, I found it hard to engage with this book, and it just didn't resonate with me.
4. Emma - ★☆☆☆☆
I found "Badjelly the witch" to be quite chaotic and confusing. The narrative was disjointed, and it felt like the author was just throwing in random elements without much thought. The humor, which other readers seemed to enjoy, didn't resonate with me and often seemed forced. Overall, I found this book to be a forgettable and underwhelming experience.
