Understanding the Essence of the Witch's Moon in Witchcraft

By admin

The idea behind a witches moon is rooted in folklore and witchcraft beliefs. In certain traditions, it is believed that a witches moon refers to a full moon that holds special significance and power for practicing witches. It is believed that during a witches moon, the energy of the moon is heightened, providing a powerful source of magic and spiritual connection. This idea is based on the understanding that the moon has a strong influence over the Earth and its inhabitants, including witches and their magic. Witches have long recognized the connection between the moon's phases and their magical practices, with the full moon being seen as a time of heightened energy and power. During a witches moon, witches may perform rituals, spells, or divination to harness and work with the powerful lunar energy.

Having some understanding of cutout animation and how difficult it is to make, especially during the time in which this film was created, the first thing I noticed while watching the film was how incredibly time consuming it must have been to create. The film starts out rather simple with sound effects to go with the motions he creates on screen but these motions are working within 24 frame per second intervals, making what I was watching even more incredible.

Prior to watching the film, or attending yesterday s class, I wasn t too knowledgeable on Smith and his work; what I was told about this particular film and about much of his work is that it was cutout animation style and experimental. Macon had recorded Mister Johnson with Sid Harkreader in 1929 with the melody but not the words to the verse identical to what is heard here The juxtaposing of the sacred verse with the profane chorus , common enough in Macon s music overall, was seldom illustrated so dramatically in a single song.
