Beyond superstition: The science behind cursed coins

By admin

The curse of coins is a notion that has intrigued and fascinated people for centuries. It refers to the belief that certain coins can bring bad luck or misfortune to those who possess them. This belief is deeply rooted in superstition and folklore, and has been passed down through generations. There are various stories and legends associated with the curse of coins. One common belief is that coins which have been stolen or taken unlawfully carry a curse that will bring suffering to whoever possesses them. It is believed that the curse is a way for the spirits or gods to punish those who have acted dishonestly.

It is believed that the curse is a way for the spirits or gods to punish those who have acted dishonestly. Another belief is that coins found at certain locations, such as graveyards or abandoned buildings, are cursed and will bring bad luck to those who pick them up. These coins are often associated with restless spirits or negative energy that is believed to be attached to them.

I recently received an advanced copy of the Jon Allen book, and after finishing the book I was surprised to find no one talking about it! Jon is a full time working pro who might be best known in magic circles for his unbelievably clever (and commercial) trick Silent Treatment, and this is a book dedicated to his unique brand of magic.

The book weighs in at over 200 pages and contains a ton of material- including some incredibly strong stuff I will be adding to my stand up set. Joshua Jay and Andi Gladwin did a fantastic job on the layout and design, as the book is not only clear and concise (with excellent photos) but has a very intimate feel to it, almost as if Jon and I are having a private discussion regarding his work.

While I purchased this book for the stand-up material the first sections I flipped to were the Close-Up and Cards sections, and there are some real gems there: an in-the-hands Out of this World, a great force, a killer (and easy!) mind reading trick with a great hook, and more.

I guess I’ve been living under a rock because I know very little about Jon’s work, and after reading some of the material I’m surprised- this guy is the real deal. Here are some of my highlights.

First, the routine Ghost. This is a well constructed routine that eliminates many of the worries accompanying thread work. The premise is strong, the effect is memorable, and the set up is practical. Worker baby!

Lucky Card. Although the routine isn’t something I’ll use (it’s not funny enough to be humorous in my hands, but not believable enough to be taken seriously) I love the theatrical nature of the trick, elevating a simply matching effect with some potential drama and an interesting hook. This has given me a lot of food for thought, and it’s a very clever idea.

Oralgami. I don’t know what to tell you about this except that it is so weird, so different, and so interesting that I HAD to make it up and try it! Indicative of Jon’s clever thinking!

Drop Zone. Wacky trick that I’m sure will become a favorite for many people- an invisible coin finds an invisible card and then everything vanishes… Very, very, cool.

Signal Strength- This is a great piece for platform use! That’s all I’m going to say!

White Noise. A handling of the headline prediction that contains some great subtlety. I predict… that this will find a way into many performers work.

And so much more!

In addition there were also some thought provoking essays, such as The Experience is Everything and Basil that are worth reading over and over again.

All in all, while I don’t normally post on here recommending books, I felt it would be a sin NOT to let you all know about it. Do yourself a favor- if you’re interested in doing any stand-up work, or simply performing for large groups of friends, get this book.

If you're reading this you're my favourite magician.

Some material was very nice and well taught but other material was not strong magic. The lecture gives you simple stuff to do not advanced stuff like i expected
The curse of coins

The curse of coins is not limited to specific cultures or regions. It is a belief that has transcended time and borders, with similar tales and superstitions being found in various parts of the world. In some cultures, coins that are given as gifts are believed to bring luck and prosperity, while others believe that coins received as gifts can carry a curse if not given with good intentions. It is important to note that the curse of coins is rooted in belief and superstition, and there is no scientific evidence to support the existence of such curses. However, for those who adhere to these beliefs, the curse of coins can be a very real and powerful force in their lives. In conclusion, the curse of coins is a fascinating and timeless belief that has captivated the human imagination for centuries. Whether these curses are real or just figments of the imagination, they continue to be a source of intrigue and mystery..

Reviews for "Cursed coins: Legends and lore surrounding haunted money"

1. John - 2 stars - I found "The Curse of Coins" to be a bit gimmicky and unoriginal. The storyline was predictable, and the characters felt one-dimensional. The concept of a cursed coin has been done before, and this book didn't offer any fresh or unique twists to make it stand out. Additionally, the writing style was lackluster and failed to captivate my interest. Overall, I was quite disappointed with this book and wouldn't recommend it.
2. Sarah - 3 stars - "The Curse of Coins" had the potential to be an intriguing novel, but it fell short for me. The plot was slow-paced, and it took too long for any significant action to occur. The characters were underdeveloped, and I found it difficult to connect with any of them. The writing style was also a bit dull, lacking the depth or excitement that I usually look for in a book. While I wouldn't say I hated it, I also wouldn't consider it a standout read.
3. Mark - 1 star - I couldn't get through "The Curse of Coins." The writing was clunky and filled with clichés. The characters were uninteresting, and the dialogue felt forced and unnatural. The pacing was slow, and the story seemed to lack direction. Overall, this book just didn't hold my attention, and I couldn't find any redeeming qualities to it. It was a disappointing read that I would not recommend to others.
