The Symbolism of Colors in Pagan Yule Mementos

By admin

Pagan Yule mementos have been a longstanding tradition in many pagan cultures. Yule, also known as the Winter Solstice, marks the longest night of the year and the return of the sun. It is a time of celebration and renewal, and many pagans choose to commemorate the occasion with special mementos. One of the most popular and widely recognized Yule mementos is the Yule log. Traditionally, a large log would be brought into the home and burned in the fireplace, symbolizing the return of light and warmth. It was believed that the ashes from the Yule log had magical properties and could be used for protection and good luck throughout the year.

Similar to the wreaths used in other winter holidays, the Yule wreath is typically made from evergreen branches and adorned with various symbols of the season, such as pinecones, berries, and ribbon.

Crochet Tutorial: Link to the Past Stocking Cap

As many of you may recall, each year I design, create, and model an EPIC cosplay costume ensemble for Halloween. If you have been following my blog, you remember 2 years ago my Cheshire Cat and Mad Hatter Costumes here or last year, The Beauty and The Beast costumes here.

Each year I try to challenge myself to something new. I began my 2017 costumes over the weekend and will release pieces over the next few months just in time for Halloween. Each video tutorial and written pattern will be FREE, and although many patterns will be related to the costume ensemble, several will be great to create on their own!!

One such piece is this Link to Past Stocking Cap. This unique Phrygian Cap is the first in a series of several videos that will be made to complete our costumes as Link and Zelda!! For those who are on my social media, it didn’t take long for the guesses to come in and easily many of you knew immediately what I was in the process of creating.

This design is very versatile. If you are not a fan of the video game or gaming scene, this can be made in any color as just a stocking hat in time for cooler weather. You can even use two tones by making your reverse single crochet stitches in a complimentary color to the hat. Red and White would make a peppermint swirl, or Red and Green would make a cute holiday hat. Removing the side laces and adding a bell on the end of the conical shape would make a darling elfin hat!

There are many fun ways to explore broadening this pattern to other great creations! For those of you who are on board to see what I create for Halloween, stay tuned for the next several weeks as I reveal more pieces for this EPIC cosplay creation. Nate and I are very excited to share another great costume with our wonderful YARNutopia community!

Pagan yule mementos

It is hung on the front door or in the home to bring good fortune and to welcome the return of the sun. Candles are also an important part of Yule celebrations and can be used as mementos. Many pagans light a candle for each night of Yule to symbolize the growing light and to honor the sun's rebirth. Some people also create their own special candles by infusing them with herbs, oils, or other magical ingredients. In addition to these physical mementos, many pagans also incorporate rituals and traditions into their Yule celebrations. These may include outdoor gatherings, bonfires, feasts, and gift exchanges. These rituals serve to connect individuals with nature and with the ancient pagan beliefs and customs associated with Yule. Overall, pagan Yule mementos hold deep symbolic meaning and help to create a sense of connection to the natural world and the cyclical nature of life. They serve as reminders of the importance of light, warmth, and renewal during the cold winter months. Whether it be a Yule log, wreath, or candle, these mementos help to infuse the Yule season with magic and reverence..
