Entonces me escribí en la mano un pequeño saludo en inglés dirigido al público que estaba en el teatro. Lo hice sanamente y sin imaginarme que iba a ser la nota más agradable del evento. Me afligí porque creía que me podían descalificar y entonces el maestro de ceremonia me dijo: “Léalo, léalo, no hay problema” y cuando desfilaba por la pasarela me decían Miss Honduras, enseña tu mano”.
Lo patrocinaba el diario El Día de Tegucigalpa, con un sistema un tanto complicado, porque en la primera página del citado rotativo aparecía un cupón que uno podía llenar y era para destacar la simpatía que gozaban las candidatas. El concurso debió haber estado muy reñido y sirvió para agitar los ánimos entre sampedranos y capitalinos, porque en San Pedro Sula se apostaba básicamente por Pastora y en Tegucigalpa por una joven también bella llamada Geraldina Ferrari.

Tegucigalpa, Honduras. 69 años han transcurrido desde que Honduras se adentró a concursar en el Miss Universo, certamen de belleza más importante del mundo. Desde entonces, solo una representante ha clasificado una vez entre las 15 favoritas, y esa fue Pastora Pagán Valenzuela.
Pagán fue la segunda hondureña en la historia del Miss Universo en participar en el certamen. Para ese tiempo, la hermosa sampedrana contaba con 18 años de edad.
