Undadewave to hold NFT event

Graphic designer and digital creative, Karee Luna, is launching her first Undadewave event, What the NFT?, a panel discussion designed to educate Bermuda on non-fungible tokens.

Ms Luna was working on bringing international artists to Bermuda next year for Undadewave, a festival of live events, when she saw an opportunity to educate the community while promoting the series.

Her creative agency, Hai Tyde, assists artists and companies in bringing an NFT component to their product and project launches.

“Those who work in or are interested in tech, know NFTs have been in circulation since as early as 2014 but really took off during Covid-19,” Ms Luna said.

“However, to the majority, these digital assets are still a foreign concept. In building Undadewave, it became clear that we couldn’t move forward without helping our people understand what it’s all about.”

What are non-fungible tokens?

The blockchain-based tokens of authenticity serve as a record or verification that a digital or real-world item, such as artwork, music, or real estate, is an original, and cannot be copied or reproduced without the owner’s knowledge and consent.

The free event will be split into two sessions: What the NFT? Youth, from 2pm to 4.30pm, for secondary and Bermuda College students, an outreach programme funded by Argus; and What the NFT?, from 5pm to 7.30pm, for the wider community.

Some of the topics covered will include the rapid growth of NFTs in the past three years, the benefit to collectors, the impact on the international art world, gaming, and ticketing systems, and their potential impact on Bermuda’s economic future.

Ms Luna hopes the information shared during the panel will bring the community into the global conversation on NFTs and encourage people to use their new-found knowledge to elevate their passions and realise their purpose.

She said guests could expect to gain a greater understanding of the NFT space and connect with local lawyers, curators, artists, and collectors who work with and are intrigued by NFTs and their place within the building of Web3. She also hopes it will open the eyes of young professionals to alternative streams of income.

David Simons, managing director of the Argus Centre of Excellence, a panel sponsor, said: “The true impact of NFTs will unfold gradually over the next few years, but with the growing popularity of disruptive technologies, such as blockchain and fintech, we are anticipating changes to the future of financial systems.”

To receive their free tickets, students should go to undadewave.com and sign up for the What The NFT? Youth tickets.

Event attendees will receive a free PDF breaking down the main topics as well as step-by-step instructions on how to create a wallet, allowing them to receive a free NFT.

Students unable to attend will be given access to a livestream of the event as well as a free instructional PDF.

Panellists will be Ms Luna, Mr Simons, Sophia Greaves, Stephanie Smellie, Christian Ansaldi, Jerome Wilson, Marcus Wade, Kerem Kolcuoglu, Ashton Easton, Maya Palacio, Stephen Bond, and Karim Creary.

The panel will take place on Thursday at the Bermuda Society of Arts at City Hall in Hamilton, and is sponsored by The Argus Group, TeleBermuda International, and Media Maya.

This has led to the internet’s rapid technological advancements as well. The internet has become much more interactive now, and many are even able to buy and sell via digital marketplaces. The result of this is the trading of non-fungible tokens known as NFTs. These Baby Apes that are represented by tokens are used as a means of exchanging digital tokens connected to an actual digital artue to this, many creators have been able to gain revenue from their work. This opportunity led to the launch of Baby Ape Social Club. It is a limited-time collection of 5,000 Baby Ape NFTs. These tokens reside on Dab Island, which is in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle situated in the blockchain. Baby Ape Social Club is a project on the Solana blockchain and was officially launched on the 12th of December, 2021. Upon launch, almost 5,000 Baby Ape NFTs were sold within 10 minutes. The team’s immense hard work and effort made this possible. The art was intrigued everyone, which is why convincing people to buy the NFTs didn’t take a lot of effort. The work spoke for itself. What makes them so unique is the achievements they have reached in such a short time. They were able to do this even though the Solana blockchain is still developing. This was all made possible due to the quality of art they have been able to deliver. Setting achievable targets and objectives and having a good community to back you up are extremely important. Moreover, many influencers have been posting about Baby Apes on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter as well. This has helped the growth of Baby Ape NFTs immensely, but being able to get this recognition was not easy. Many challenges cropped up, but the team was able to stick it out through thick and thin. One of the biggest challenges was to overcome the uncertainty and doubts people and members have had in the stability of the NFT market. The struggle to ensure that everyone is on the same page and that trust is intact was a huge problem to solve initially. The only way to fight these doubts was to address them and approach everyone’s queries with an analytical response. Being able to handle constructive criticism and work on those accordingly was a great help as well. The Baby Ape Social Club has a team of remarkably smart, talented, and enthusiastic people. They have been making it work and have achieved a lot in such a short span of time. In addition to that, they aspire to launch more projects on the Solana blockchain all being linked to Baby Apes in the coming years. Creating a seamless system between and partnering with famous global brands is also one of their objectives. The Ape School is also another way to onboard people and teach them about the NFT and blockchain world. Baby Ape Social Club is unique in its own way and has achieved a lot quickly.

Reviews for "The Role of Michigan Tech's Mascot in Building Community on Campus"

1. John - 2 stars - As an alumni of Michigan Tech, I was extremely disappointed with the new mascot. It looks nothing like our beloved Huskies and seems more like a generic wolf. The design lacks the fierce and intimidating features that we associate with our school's mascot. It's unfortunate that the university didn't consult the students or alumni before making this change.
2. Sarah - 1 star - The new Michigan Tech mascot is a complete letdown. It's hard to even recognize it as a husky, let alone our school's symbol. The cartoonish design and lack of attention to detail are a disservice to our rich history and traditions. I hope the university reconsiders and brings back the old mascot that truly represented the spirit and pride of Michigan Tech.
3. Mark - 3 stars - While I appreciate the effort put into creating a new Michigan Tech mascot, I can't help but feel underwhelmed by the end result. The design feels uninspired and doesn't capture the essence of our husky spirit. I was hoping for a more innovative and modern interpretation of our mascot that would resonate with current and future students.
4. Emily - 2 stars - The new Michigan Tech mascot looks like something out of a Saturday morning cartoon. It lacks the fierce and intimidating presence that we've come to associate with our school's symbol. The previous mascot commanded respect and pride, while the new one is more likely to be mistaken for a cuddly stuffed animal. It's a missed opportunity to inspire school spirit and loyalty.
5. Alex - 1 star - I can't believe Michigan Tech approved the new mascot. It's a disgrace to our university and the legacy of our husky mascot. The cartoonish design and lack of attention to detail make it seem like a joke rather than a representation of our pride and heritage. I hope the administration listens to the students and alumni and makes the necessary changes to restore our iconic mascot.
