There was once a little boy named Timmy who was fascinated by magic. He had always dreamed of meeting a real magic man who could perform incredible tricks and make things appear out of thin air. Timmy had read books about magic and even tried to perform his own tricks, but he knew that nothing could compare to the magic man he imagined in his mind. One day, Timmy heard about a famous magic man named Mr. Mystique who was visiting his town. Timmy's excitement knew no bounds and he immediately rushed to tell his parents about the news.

The seal is the university’s formal emblem representing our traditions of academic excellence, Jesuit education, and the dynamic opportunities afforded by our location.
History of the Seal
Seattle University has had a formal seal for more than a century. During this time the seal has evolved through three changes. Each change has increased the impact and clarity of the symbolism of the seal. The seal has also changed to reflect the evolution of the university from Seattle College to Seattle University. The origin of the original seal is not known, but there is some indication that it was designed by the late James Brogan, SJ, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church. Father Brogan was instrumental in designing the seal of Gonzaga University as well. Sometime before 1956 the seal was refined by Neil Meany, SJ. The current refinement of the university seal was designed by David Balzer, Seattle University’s creative director, and formally approved by Seattle University President Stephen V. Sundborg, SJ, in July 2003. The current seal was updated to reinforce the Jesuit tradition of Seattle University and to recognize the university’s location in the city of Seattle and the Northwest.

Timmy's excitement knew no bounds and he immediately rushed to tell his parents about the news. His parents, seeing how passionate Timmy was about magic, decided to take him to the magic show. The day of the magic show arrived and Timmy could hardly contain his excitement.

Seattle Central College has a new, old official mascot
The votes are in, and Seattle Central College students have chosen the new look for the college’s revived fighting mascot, the Seattle Central Tiger.
By a resounding majority, students chose an original design by one of their fellow students, Jerrald Morales. The design incorporates the image of a Bengal Tiger with an outline of the downtown Seattle skyline and the initials of the college.
Jerrald will receive $1,000 for his design, which will become the official look of the Seattle Central Tiger mascot for all college promotions and events. Jerrald is on his first year at the college and plans to study illustration at Seattle Central’s Creative Academy.
“I am glad to be a part of this opportunity and hope for the best that this design fits the recommendation of the school,” Jerrald said in his submission application.
“We are super excited we were able to provide an opportunity for the student body to democratically participate and select the mascot and logo that will represent the Seattle Central College community. We hope that in doing this, we can help build the cohesion of the SCC community,” said Michael Harris, Executive of Issues & Concerns officer with the Associated Student Council.
The design contest was sponsored and run by the Associated Student Council and student leadership.
Students submitted their entries over winter quarter, and a selection committee of students and advisory faculty and staff narrowed the choices to four. The runner up designs were submitted by Aivy Ha, Kaitlyn Rowe, and Long Thai.
The contest was designed to draw interest to the history and origins of Seattle Central College. The college sits on the site of the Broadway High School, which closed and evolved into the Edison Technical School after World War II. Broadway High School’s mascot was the Bengal Tiger.
Because of social distancing restrictions, the ASC has postponed the originally planned launch and student celebration until later in 2020. We will share more details soon.

As he entered the venue, he could feel the anticipation building up inside him. The lights dimmed, the curtains opened, and there stood Mr. Mystique, the renowned magic man.
