The Power of Witches Brew: A Natural Cold Remedy

By admin

During the cold and flu season, many people turn to over-the-counter remedies and medications to alleviate their symptoms. However, there are also natural remedies that have been used for centuries to help relieve cold symptoms. One such remedy is known as a "witches brew." A witches brew is a homemade concoction made from various herbs and spices that are believed to have immune-boosting properties and help alleviate cold symptoms. While there is no scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of witches brews, many individuals swear by them and find them helpful in managing their cold symptoms. The ingredients used in a witches brew can vary depending on personal preference and availability.

Your throats getting scratchy and you start to feel a little tired.

We all have different signs but we always know the first couple indicators that we're about to get sick. For me, it's sudden fatigue and an ache in my spine. When I feel these symptoms the first thing I do is create an intense yet effective home remedy! In my house, we refer to it as "Witches' Brew". It's not the tastiest drink but I've definitely gotten over illness much quicker or avoided it altogether!

If you have a low tolerance to spice or just want to go a little more basic, just stick with ginger, garlic, lemon/lime, and honey.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 1/2 cups of water
  • 1 inch of ginger thinly sliced
  • 1 clove of garlic thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • 1 lemon/ lime - juiced

Boil the ginger, garlic, and cayenne together for 20-25 minutes. Then strain the contents into your favorite mug. Finally, add 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp of honey, and 1 whole lime juiced.

It won't be a beverage you will enjoy drinking, but trust me, it's super effective!

Witch’s Brew Herbal – Virus Killer

This is a calming, pleasant herbal tea that will help you fight the common cold. Witches Brew will help with breaking up phlegm in your chest and busting up the flu, killing viruses before they compromise your immune system. It will also help warm the extremities, can help with getting sound sleep, and helps bloating and an upset stomach. Although Witch’s Brew is fine for both men and women, it is especially good to help with cramps and PMS due to the anti-inflammatory properties that all of the herbs and spices have in them.

I consider this specific blend as the super spice/ herb/ root/ bark/ seed/ leaf/ flower all combined edition. I enjoyed adding things that I knew would taste good and help the body rid of viruses.

With all of the natural ingredients in this herbal blend, it is very high in antioxidants which help fight off free radicals. If you give your body things that are good for it, it will in turn continue to run how it was meant to run. For those days when your immune system is compromised, turn to witch’s brew to help lift up your spirits and body again.

Witches Brew

Whenever I feel like an immune boost this is my go to recipe. When I was studying Acupuncture a good friend told me about ‘Witches Brew’. I made it and was amazed how much better I felt the next day. If I’m ever feeling achy, have a sore throat or feel like I’m fighting off a cough or cold, this always picks me up.

All of the ingredients work together to tonify and strengthen your immune system and are well known for their powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

What you may not know is that this drink also has wonderful properties in Chinese medicine. Chinese food energetics are used to restore and maintain health. The flavours, temperatures and methods of cooking are all factors in Chinese food energetics.

For example there 5 flavours: Sweet, Salty, Bitter, Pungent and Sour. Foods flavours have different actions on the body and can affect your health. These flavours complement each other in different ways.

Looking at the ingredients in Witches Brew we can begin to understand why this has such a powerful effect on restoring health.

Ginger, chilli and garlic are all heating and Pungent so have the actions of moving Blood and Qi. They also have the properties of counteracting cold, resolving phlegm and reducing wind-cold-damp (regarded as pathogens in Chinese medicine often associated with colds and the flu!).

The lemon juice is important as this provides Sour flavour and also has beneficial properties. It promotes Qi and Blood circulation and it also removes toxins and resolves phlegm.

Finally we add Honey, this has a Sweet flavour. Often used in recipes in Chinese medicine to promote blood circulation and remove toxins.

So, knowing how all of these ingredients work in the body, it is no wonder that Witches Brew works so well at shaking off any cold or cough and helps to boost your immune system.

Here is how to make Witches Brew as an immune boost. . . .

  • Ginger – 1 inch of fresh ginger, skin scraped away and finely chopped
  • Chilli – 1 small red chilli, deseeded and cut into little pieces
  • Garlic – 1 medium clove of garlic thinly sliced
  • Honey – 1 teaspoon of good quality honey
  • Lemon Juice – juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 litre water
  1. In a pan with a lid add 500ml water
  2. Add the ginger, chilli and garlic
  3. Bring the pan to the boil and turn down to simmer
  4. Decoct the mixture for at LEAST 20 minutes. This is important and necessary the draw all of the active ingredients into the mixture
  5. Remove from the heat and add the lemon juice to the pan
  6. Pour out enough to fill one mug, add the honey and stir until dissolved (keep the rest of the mixture to warm up again later).

Optional – I always eat the bits of chilli, garlic and ginger that are in the mug. This does make the brew very strong so beware!

I was really disappointed with the "Witches brew for colds". Not only did it not help alleviate my symptoms, but it actually made me feel worse. The taste was absolutely awful and left a horrible aftertaste in my mouth. I followed the instructions carefully and gave it a fair chance, but it simply did not work for me. I would not recommend this product to anyone looking for relief from their cold symptoms.

I had high hopes for the "Witches brew for colds", but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. While it did provide temporary relief, it was not long-lasting and I found myself needing to take it multiple times throughout the day. Additionally, the price of the product was quite steep considering the lack of effectiveness. I would advise trying alternative remedies before resorting to this product.
3. Michael - 1 star
I purchased the "Witches brew for colds" based on the positive reviews I had read online, but I found it to be completely useless. It did nothing to alleviate my cold symptoms and I felt like I wasted my money. The packaging promises quick relief, but that was not my experience at all. I would not recommend this product to anyone in need of a reliable cold remedy.
