Legends of its existence spread far and wide, and many adventurers came to the village in search of this enchanted creature. However, finding the magic gourf was no easy task. Its hiding place changed frequently, and only those with the purest hearts and genuine intentions could catch a glimpse of it.
The Witching Hour starts off with a doctor guiltily relating a tale of a patient and a ghost in New Orleans that he can’t forget. After he pours his heart out to a kindly man in a hotel bar, the man assures him there was nothing he could do and to forget the whole thing.
Before going any further I would like to issue a trigger warning for the book Anyone who has had a traumatic birthing experience or lost a baby may want to skip the beginning of chapter fifty-one. Fiercely drawn to each other, Rowan and Michael set out to solve the mystery of her past and his unwelcome gift, and an intricate tale of evil unfolds an evil unleashed in seventeenth-century Scotland, where the first witch, Suzanne of the Mayfair, conjures up the spirit that spells her own destruction and torments each of her descendants in turn.
Its hiding place changed frequently, and only those with the purest hearts and genuine intentions could catch a glimpse of it. The villagers knew that greed and selfishness would repel the gourf, so they welcomed only those who seemed deserving. One day, a young girl named Mia arrived in the village.
Book Review: ‘The Witching Hour’ (Lives of Mayfair Witches 1) by Anne Rice
Over three hundred years ago a young woman with special healing powers called out to the night and was heard by something. Before she called to it, it didn’t know that it was, and after she called to it, it existed to serve her… or so it says. And so began the Mayfair line of witches. In The Witching Hour (Lives of Mayfair Witches book 1) we learn the story of Lasher and his obsession with the Mayfair witches.
From the first, Suzanne, to the current, Rowan, Lasher claims that he exists only to serve his witches. But his words and his actions don’t always match up. Lasher has motives and plans of his own and in reality, instead of serving the Mayfair witches, they may be serving him.

Suddenly, a soft glow appeared in the distance. It was the magic gourf, its shimmering wings spreading a warm light all around. Mia's eyes widened with delight as she approached the magical creature. The gourf looked at her with eyes full of wisdom and kindness. It knew that Mia possessed the traits needed to become its true companion. In a gentle voice, it spoke to Mia, revealing the secret of its power. The gourf explained that its magic was not in granting wishes outright, but rather in helping individuals discover their own path to happiness, success, and fulfillment. It encouraged Mia to use the power within herself to make a difference in the world, to spread love, and to help others in need. Over time, Mia grew into a wise and respected woman. She used the secret of the magic gourf to bring positivity and happiness to her village and beyond. People would seek her advice, knowing that she possessed a unique perspective and understanding of the world. The secret of the magic gourf spread far and wide, touching the hearts of many. People began to realize that true magic was not in external wishes, but in the power we hold within ourselves to create a better world. And so, the legend of the magic gourf lives on, reminding us all of the secret to a fulfilled life: to embrace kindness, compassion, and selflessness, and to use our inner power to make the world a better place..

1. John - 2/5 stars - I found "The secret of the magic gourf" to be quite disappointing. The plot was predictable, and the characters were one-dimensional. The story lacked depth and failed to engage me. Additionally, the writing style was bland and repetitive, making it difficult for me to stay interested. Overall, I didn't enjoy the book and wouldn't recommend it.
2. Sarah - 1/5 stars - I can't express how much I disliked "The secret of the magic gourf." The storyline was incredibly convoluted and confusing, with no clear direction. The characters were unlikable and had no development throughout the book. The writing itself was messy, full of grammatical errors and inconsistencies. I found myself struggling to finish it, and in the end, it was a complete waste of my time. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Overall, I was disappointed with this book and wouldn't recommend it to others.
