Yangus is a bandit with a heart of gold, Jessica is a fiesty magician, and the titular cursed King is a funnily written character who's struggling to get used to his new form. After all I was just in a bar room brawl that had me chuckling at how each of my party members handled the situation.
I see why the instant Alchemy Pot would be nice but with PCSX's 2x speed for overworld AND combat in a game that's already grindy, it's fine. Plus this game looks gorgeous still and why I don't want to scrap my progress to switch to a version that's 240p.
Spoiler: ScreenshotsAs I said in another threadmark combat is good not just because of 2x speed but because I feel like the abilities gained from skill point allocation and the tension system are great even if not all that deep. Though I gotta give the game the side-eye for Jessica's character specific skill point being sex appeal. Mechanically it's nice being able to "stun" enemies by making them fall in love with her but holy shit that made the game seem straight outta the 40s or something.
And while Dhoulmagus has still yet to really establish himself as our villain, the moment to moment story of just following his trail of destruction is at least serviceable. I had similar complaints with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition where the overall story was lacking though I was enjoying the characters and their recruitment by helping them out of their jams as we traveled the world.
Finally, I think expectations are the biggest reason why I'm enjoying myself. I was expecting something more out of DQXI given the scores the game received, excitement to finally play one of these after getting into JRPGs, loving DQ Builders (aka being one of the cultivated people SE tried to build up with Builders & Heroes), and just knowing how big the series was in the genre/Japan.
But now that I know what the games are, very safe and conservative JRPGs, my expectations are properly set.

Not only did it take forever to arrive, but when it finally did, it was in terrible condition. The seams were already coming apart and there were stains all over the costume. It was absolutely embarrassing to have our company's mascot wearing such a shabby outfit. I reached out to customer service and they were unhelpful and dismissive. Avoid this company at all costs!
3. Mike - 3/5 stars - I had mixed feelings about the mascot outfit I purchased for my son's school carnival. On the positive side, the outfit arrived on time and the customer service was decent. However, the quality of the costume left much to be desired. The material felt flimsy and it didn't have the vibrant colors shown in the product photos. It served its purpose for the event, but I wouldn't purchase from this company again.
