Kelly Clarkson Adds Her Own ‘Magic’ to Coldplay Cover for Kellyoke

Kelly Clarkson closed out a week of performances on The Kelly Clarkson Show with a dazzling rendition of “Magic” by Coldplay. The song first appeared on the band’s album Ghost Stories, released in 2014. Joined by her band Y’all, Clarkson added a soulful simmer to the record during the performance.

Earlier this week, Clarkson delivered new renditions of songs like “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens and “Faithfully” by Journey featuring Jude Keyz. She also broke her streak of performing only covers with a special debut live performance of her latest single, “Mine,” which will appear on her forthcoming album Chemistry.

Set for release on June 23, Chemistry marks Clarkson’s first original body of work in six years. Last year, she released the 6-track Kellyoke EP that featured some of her greatest covers, from taking on Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” and The Weeknd’s “Call Out My Name” to Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night” and Linda Ronstadt’s “Blue Bayou.”

“Many fans have been asking me for years about a new project, and I’ve been working on a new album. It’s just taken a minute,” Clarkson told her audience earlier this week. “That song that I just did is actually one of the first singles being released from the record.”

She added: “It’s called ‘Mine’ and we don’t really need to explain it because, you know, the lyrics, they’re pretty self-evident. But I was feeling all the feelings when I wrote that one. Anyway, it’s one of those songs, though, that I really wanted to release as one of the first singles to go out because I just love that I’ve never really done anything like that on a chorus, never changed tempo in a song. It was just a different vibe for me overall. I was very excited about it — but obviously, it’s also just very angry and sad. But I let it out and I feel great now.”

Kelly Clarkson brought the magic once again! On April 20, she sang a rendition of the aptly named "Magic" by Coldplay in a tone that will send chills down your spine.

The performance started out with some sliding, relaxing guitar notes. "Call it magic, call it true, I call it magic when I'm with you," Clarkson crooned softly into the microphone. "And I just got broken, broken into two, still I call it magic, when I'm next to you," she continued.

For the chorus, the drummer kicked it up a notch, yet the sound remained dreamy and atmospheric. "And I don't, and I don't, and I don't, and I don't, no, I don't, it's true, I don't, no, I don't, no, I don't, no, I don't, want anybody else but you," Clarkson sang in a gorgeously balanced tone.

But what would a Kellyoke be without some massively impressive belting notes? "Wanna fall, fall so far I wanna fall, fall so hard, and I call it magic," she sang her heart out, quickly flipping back and forth between some powerful notes and heavenly gentle vibrato.

"And if you were to ask me, after all that we've been through, still believe in magic?, Oh yes, I do," she sang the outro with her eyes closed, fully immersing herself in the music.

While Clarkson's covers are top-notch, we're happy to hear that she has new music released as well. She debuted two show-stopping singles titled "mine" and "me" last week, and recently performed "mine" on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Both amazing tunes will be on Clarkson's upcoming album titled Chemistry. Clarkson recently explained the inspiration behind the project's title.

Kelly Clarkson Just Released 2 New Songs—And the Lyrics Are So Emotional

"It's called Chemistry because I was trying to find a word—also, it might be one of the songs on the album—but I was trying to find a word that really described the whole thing," Clarkson said. "Because I didn't want everyone to think I was just coming out with some, 'I'm angry, I'm sad' [album], just one or two emotions. This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship. A whole relationship shouldn't be just brought down to one thing. So there's the good, the bad, and the ugly kinda thing going on. Chemistry can be a really amazing sexy, cool, fun thing, but it can also be very bad for you. So that's why I named it Chemistry. I thought it was the perfect title to describe the entire album."

Take Clarkson’s s simmering version of Coldplay‘s “Magic,” which she performed on Friday’s (April 21) Kelly Clarkson Show. The already pretty mellow original — which appeared on the band’s 2014 Ghost Stories album — bops along at a medium pace, fueled by singer Chris Martin’s keening “ooh-ooh-ooh” vocalizations, a spare, muffled snare beat and spacey guitars.

Clarkson’s version borrowed the same hypnotic bass strum and spare beat, but amped up the heartache with her signature yearning vocals and flawless runs. “And if you were to ask me/ After all we’ve been through/ ‘Still believe in magic?’ Oh yes, I do,” she sang in her higher register, repeating the last line for devastating emotional emphasis.

The three-time Grammy winner confirmed last week that her anticipated post-divorce record, the 14-track Chemistry, is due out on June 23 and will be split into two sides, “Mine” and “Me.” She also revealed that there are two very unique guests joining her on the collection, actor/comedian/banjo player Steve Martin (on “i hate love”) and legendary percussionist/singer Sheila E. (on “that’s right.”)

“Having chemistry with someone is an incredible, and overwhelming, feeling,” Clarkson said about the record in a statement. “It’s like you have no choice in the matter. You are just drawn to each other. This can be good and bad. This album takes you down every path that chemistry could lead you down. There are many stages of grief and loss on this album. Each song is a different stage and emotional state.”

Reviews for "The art of making magic atars candy - a delectable masterpiece"

1. John - 1 star - I was really disappointed with the Magic Stars candy. The taste was extremely artificial and left a strange aftertaste in my mouth. The texture was also quite hard and unpleasant to chew. I was expecting a more enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, this candy just didn't deliver.
2. Sarah - 2 stars - I had heard great things about Magic Stars candy, but I have to say I was underwhelmed. The flavor was too sweet for my liking, almost sickeningly so. It also lacked any distinct taste; it was just a generic sweetness with no other flavors coming through. I wouldn't recommend this candy to anyone who prefers more subtle and nuanced flavors.
3. Michael - 2 stars - I found the Magic Stars candy to be too expensive for what it offered. The packaging is appealing, but the taste and quality just didn't match up. The chocolate was mediocre at best, and the sprinkles on top were hardly noticeable. Overall, I don't think it's worth the price tag and would suggest looking for other chocolate treats instead.
4. Emily - 1 star - The Magic Stars candy was a big disappointment. The chocolate tasted cheap and had a waxy texture. The sprinkles on top added a strange crunchiness that didn't complement the candy well. Honestly, I would rather spend my money on a different brand of chocolate that is more enjoyable and satisfying.
