‘The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself’ Trailer – Netflix’s Witch Series Unleashes Bloody Mayhem

Just in time for Halloween, Netflix has announced another brand new horror series that’ll premiere this month, titled “The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself” and arriving on October 28.

Described as an “edgy, YA drama that’s grounded in the modern day,” the Netflix series is set in a world where witches live amongst us. “Expect magic, sarcasm, banter, potions in zip-lock bags, hunters, romance, loyalty and unbreakable friendship…it’s a truly f*cked up ride.”

Watch the bloody official trailer below and read on for details.

In “The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself,” sixteen-year-old Nathan (Jay Lycurgo) is the illegitimate son of the world’s most dangerous witch. Fearing he will follow in his father’s footsteps, Nathan is closely monitored throughout his childhood. As the boundaries between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ fray, Nathan – along with mischievous Annalise (Nadia Parkes) and charismatic Gabriel (Emilien Vekemans) – will soon discover who he truly is.

Written by Joe Barton (The Lazarus Project, Giri/Haji) and based on the Half Bad books by Sally Green. The series boasts an entirely new score created by British pop group Let’s Eat Grandma, with directors including Colm McCarthy (Black Mirror: Black Museum, The Girl with all the Gifts), Rachna Suri (Mr Whippy, Our Lad) and Debs Paterson (Willow, Domina).

The show’s cast includes Jay Lycurgo (Titans, The Batman, I May Destroy You), Nadia Parkes (Domina, Starstruck) and Emilien Vekemans (Transferts), Isobel Jesper Jones, Paul Ready (Motherland, The Terror), David Gyasi (Carnival Row, Troy: Fall of a City), Kerry Fox (Conversations with Friends, Last Tango in Halifax), Liz White (Unforgotten, Brexit: The Uncivil War), Karen Connell (Vikings), Fehinti Balogun (I May Destroy You, Dune), Misha Butler (Kiss Me First) as well as multiple Brit Award and Mercury Music Prize nominee Roísín Murphy.

The 30 Best TV Shows About Witches the Whole Coven Will Enjoy

Double double, toil and trouble. All magic comes with a price, and stories about witches come in all shapes and sizes. They can be as tame as a cottagecore Pinterest board or straight-up terrifying. The great thing about witches themselves, as The Wizard of Oz put so bluntly, is that they aren’t necessarily good or bad. Witchcraft has historically been a way for women to step outside the bounds of society. It’s a satisfying escape! Women have suffered enough (hello, Salem witch trials), so let fictional witches do whatever they want.

Witchy shows go back as far as the 1960s and as recent as 2023. Mayfair Witches, anyone?! Here are the 30 best television shows about witches for when you want something more specific than just fantasy, horror, or even romance in your weekend binge. There are also great shows about just one excellent witch, or shows with magical girlies that blur those lines a little bit. Burn sage, pour yourself some brew, put on your pointiest hat, and let’s get into it.
