The Enchanting Character of the Magic Man in James and the Giant Peach

By admin

James and the Giant Peach is a popular children's book written by Roald Dahl. It tells the story of a young boy named James who lives with his cruel aunts after his parents die in a tragic accident. James' life takes a magical turn when he encounters a mysterious old man who gives him a bag of magic crocodile tongues. James accidentally drops the tongues near an old peach tree, which causes a gigantic peach to grow. Curiosity gets the better of James, leading him to climb inside the peach, where he discovers a group of anthropomorphic insects who also grew to immense sizes due to the magic. The group consists of Centipede, Earthworm, Ladybug, Grasshopper, Glowworm, and Spider.

Potion of True Healing
Potion, rare When you drink this potion, you regain 35 hit points and are cured of blindness, deafness, and any disease affecting you.

Apply that to three attacks per round with a burst of six attacks on a round where Action Surge is activated and fight against a monster with 200 HP an efreet for example and you can get some way out of scale damage spikes. It seems to be missing the higher rarities, which are likely more interesting for increased damage - for example, the rare flame blade adds 2d6 fire endgroup.

The group consists of Centipede, Earthworm, Ladybug, Grasshopper, Glowworm, and Spider. Together, they embark on a remarkable adventure across the Atlantic Ocean. The journey in the oversized peach leads them to various challenges and encounters with dangerous creatures.

Which magic weapon deals the most damage?

1 To make damage calculations comparable, use the expected base damage assuming a hit (without hit chance adjustment for different ACs), and add additional damage from critical hits. As we assume a hit already, and a 1 would always miss, there are only 19/20 possible d20 results to account for for a critical, so use 5.26% chance for that.

You can in addition provide the expected damage against an average AC that gives you a base 65% hit chance (and if you like use increased hit chance on that base from advantage), and use the normal 5% critical chance for that.

\$\begingroup\$ Since it is not entirely clear for me: Do you want the calculations to use median/expected averages damages or shall we assume max dice where applicable? Also, may we crit? (thinking of a vorporal sword or similar which do extra stuff on a crit) \$\endgroup\$

\$\begingroup\$ @TobiasF. I will add this. I am looking for expected damage, not maximum damage (because this is much more relevant in actual play). You can assume normal crit chances. Vorpal is tricky as most of the time, it just beheads and does not deal damage, not sure how to handle that. \$\endgroup\$
