Most notably, though, Joy (played by Wynonna Earp‘s Kat Barrell) and Zoey (played by Shadowhunters‘ Kyana Teresa) shared the first-ever kiss between an LGBTQ couple on a Hallmark Channel original series. (In fact, #TeamJoey also represented the first LGBTQ couple featured in a Hallmark series.)

Airing first in 2008, it all began with the movie titled The Good Witch, and from there, fans fell in love with Cassandra Nightingale and couldn’t dream of a future without her. What is Good Witch about?

Good Witch started out as a 2008 made-for-TV movie following the life of Cassandra Nightingale, a woman who moves to the small town of Middleton to set up a store. The thing is, Cassandra isn’t your average small business owner; she’s actually a witch who sells herbs and other magical tinctures. While the people of Middleton are suspicious of her and her motives at first, a budding romantic relationship with police officer Jake Russell convinces Cassandra to stay despite what others may think. As her journey continues through more films and a spinoff, fans get the privilege of growing alongside Cassandra and taking a journey through the ways in which her life has changed.

As she builds a life for herself, navigating new relationships in friendship and romance, we see her life begin to flourish in ways she didn’t expect. Middletown soon begins to truly feel like home, and as she crafts a life that she loves, she invites people to do the same, inspiring them to find magic right where they are.

With the core television series, five TV specials, and seven films, Cassandra’s story is one of the most beautiful that we’ve seen in a long time, full of joy and adoration for the present and all of the glory you can find there if you simply believe in it.
