Wiccan holidays, also known as Sabbats, are celebrated throughout the year by practitioners of the Wiccan religion. These holidays are based on the cycles of nature and the changing seasons. In 2022, Wiccans will observe eight Sabbats, each with its own unique significance. The year begins with Imbolc on February 2nd, marking the transition from winter to spring. It is a time to honor the returning light and the Goddess Brigid, who represents healing and inspiration. Next comes Ostara on March 21st, which celebrates the spring equinox.
Also referred to as the Feast of Pan, Feast of Torches, Feast of Waxing Lights, and Oimele. Celebrates the coming of spring and recovery of the Earth Goddess after giving birth to the Sun God at Yule. For many traditions, a time for initiations, re-dedication and pledges for the coming year. One of the four “greater Sabbats.”
This date is also known as Befana Day; commemorates the revelation of God through Jesus Christ and marks the time the three wise men arrived in Bethlehem and presented gifts to the baby Jesus. General Practices Families gather together to spend the evening preparing boiled dumplings and festive meals and giving money to children in red envelopes.
Next comes Ostara on March 21st, which celebrates the spring equinox. Wiccans pay tribute to the balance of day and night and the awakening of nature. This holiday is also associated with the Goddess Eostre and the symbolism of fertility.

Beltane, celebrated on May 1st, represents the peak of spring and the beginning of summer. It focuses on fertility, passion, and the union of the God and Goddess. It is a time for dancing around the Maypole and celebrating the abundance of the season. Midsummer, also known as Litha, falls on June 21st and marks the summer solstice. It is the longest day of the year and represents the power of the sun and the harvest to come. Wiccans gather to celebrate the peak of summer and honor the God and Goddess. Lughnasadh, observed on August 1st, is the first harvest festival of the year. It is a time to give thanks for the bountiful crops and to honor the God Lugh, who represents skill and craftsmanship. Wiccans also celebrate the changing of the seasons and the approaching autumn. Mabon, also called the autumn equinox, falls on September 21st. It represents the balance between day and night and the beginning of fall. Wiccans give thanks for the abundance of the harvest season and honor the God and Goddess. Samhain, celebrated on October 31st, is perhaps the most well-known Wiccan holiday. It marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It is a time to honor ancestors, reflect on mortality, and celebrate the thinning of the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds. Finally, Yule, observed on December 21st, is the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year. Wiccans celebrate the rebirth of the sun and the promise of lighter days to come. It is a time for introspection, meditation, and honoring the God and Goddess.
