In 1692, this small village of Essex County, Massachusetts, bore witness to America’s most lethal witch hunt. Over 200 were accused, and nineteen executed. Sarah Good, Elizabeth Howe, Susannah Martin, Rebecca Nurse, and Sarah Wildes were the first “witches” hanged at Proctor’s Ledge, but they would not be the last. Their charge?
