How Marvel Snap’s Infinity Splits Work To Get Rainbow, Gold And Black And White Cards

While I just ticked over 100 hours in Marvel Snap on Steam alone yesterday, there has been one aspect of the game I still have not fully understood after all this time, the concept of Infinity Splits.

Upgrading a card to Infinity is its “max,” in that it costs 500 credits and then creates a special, shiny version of your card that you can then upgrade again. But if you’ve been playing the game, you’ve probably seen cards with little motion effects and even things like gold or black and white cards. So how exactly do you get those? Why do you keep getting new copies of cards every time you take something to Infinity?

It is not a very straightforward system, and it is not remotely explained in the game at all. I did a lot of research, watching some videos and reading this article in depth, and I’m going to try to summarize it for you.

In short, Marvel Snap keeps track of how many times you’ve taken a card to Infinity. The more times you take a card to Infinity and create new copies, you eventually unlock chances for additional, very rare effects that you will not otherwise. For instance, there is a zero percent chance to get a black and white card on your first Infinity split, but later? Yes, yes there are.

There are two kinds of effects, backgrounds and particles. Your first split with get you a background, your second a particle effect. Then as you go on, chances for rare ones increase. Here’s what’s available:

Backgrounds – Foil, Prism, Gold, Ink (black and white)

Particles – Glimmer, Cosmic, Sparkle, Kirby Crackle (named after the comic artist)

From Snap.fan, we also know the exact chance for each of these effects to appear after a certain number of splits:

So as you can see, it’s not even until your fourth split that you have a chance to get Ink or Sparkle. And even after that, your chance for Ink never goes above 10%. You have to get all the way to six splits to even have a 10% chance at a Kirby Crackle particle effect, and if you want say, an Ink or Gold card with that crackle? You can see how the odds are not in your favor, and how many splits overall you may need to finally land that combo.

Yes, you will get duplicates. Many times, most likely, if you’re focusing on just one card to get it to higher split levels. One bit of good news is that Marvel Snap tracks Infinity Splits for your entire card, meaning all variants are included. So if you have 4 splits on a card and switch over to your Variant, you’re not starting over from one, you’re still on your fourth and the odds will reflect that once you take it to Infinite.

Overall this does…nothing but look cool. But it’s a way for avid players to build long-term collections in pursuit of specific looks or deck themes. I saw something on reddit where a guy had a full Ink deck that looked absolutely sick. But for us plebians, that will take forever to execute, and I have no doubt more backgrounds and effects will be added in time. For now, I think they need to stop listing all Infinite’s separately on your card page as it makes it too cluttered if you ask me, and they need to stack them somehow once you get past 2 or 3.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse shines because it’s a simple game that delivers superbly on a simple concept. You’re repeating many of the same actions again and again, but with each new stroke it feels more refined, more graceful. I’ve never felt smarter or more sophisticated while playing a Kirby game.

1. Emma - 2/5 Stars:
I was really disappointed with "Pagan Holidays Chronicle". The book promised to provide an in-depth exploration of pagan holidays and their significance, but instead, it was filled with vague descriptions and repetitive information. The author seemed to rely heavily on personal anecdotes rather than providing well-researched facts. Additionally, the lack of proper citations made it difficult to trust the information presented. Overall, I found the book to be lacking in substance and not worth the investment.
