Magic Ground Columbia Heights is a vibrant and bustling neighborhood located in Northwest Washington, D.C. It is known for its rich history, diverse population, and lively atmosphere. The neighborhood's charm lies in its unique blend of residential and commercial spaces, making it an attractive destination for both locals and tourists. One of the key attractions of Columbia Heights is its vibrant food scene. The neighborhood offers a wide range of dining options, ranging from trendy cafes to ethnic eateries.

Introducing Magic Ground in Columbia Heights

A new indoor playground, Magic Ground has opened in Columbia Heights, just above Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond on the 3rd floor. You can park in the underground garage of DC USA or take the Columbia Heights Metro. You can purchase several “packages” like Winter or Summer Memberships as well as an Annual Pass and half-day/full-day passes they will offer Parents Nights Out.

The theme of Magic Ground is a magical castle and the motto is “a magical place to eat healthy and play safely.” Children will crawl, jump and climb, explore, discover and create here. Magic Ground has only been open a week but word has gotten out, as there were about 15 kids playing with us. However, The Restaurant, Game Tech (a modern time corner to ignite your senses) and Show Hall (costumes and face painting) were not open. There is a cute place with vanities and hair salon tools for kids to pretend. There are a few kitchens and baby dolls in an area to play with. My son loved sliding down the slide into the ball pit, shooting an air cannon with balls and swinging on a swing inside of the apparatus.

My son spent the majority of our time in the Playground and a few minutes coloring and playing with stickers. There are various TVs around Magic Ground with Sprout playing. I believe a circle time, story time, singing and other programs will eventually be offered. 18 months is the youngest I think I’d bring here and that is the youngest they will accept for the childcare/drop-off option.

The space is bright and clean. The staff are warm, friendly and very engaged with the children and parents. There are bathrooms with changing tables and plenty of seating to relax and watch the kids play if you don’t want to take your shoes off and get in the playground (which you are welcome to do).

This looks awesome! Wish it was open last month for my twins’ birthday party. Thanks for your review and detailed photos.

I think that this space is wonderful, but the prices are extremely high for birthday parties. You aren’t even allowed to bring outside food or your own kid’s birthday cake ! All the items are expensive, $30 for 15 cupcakes is ridiculous!

Note that Magic Ground’s website does not mention the rule that all kids must have socks in order to enter. We arrived with several kids without socks, and had to make those kids wait outside, sad, while someone ran to Target to buy socks. (It would seem Magic Ground is willing to sell socks expensively, but they don’t have any to lend….)

Reviews for "Experiencing the Magic and Mystery of Columbia Heights"

- Emily - 2 stars - I was really excited to visit Magic Ground Columbia Heights, but I left feeling disappointed. The staff was unhelpful and seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves than assisting customers. The admission prices were also quite steep for what the place had to offer. The play area seemed cramped and not very well-maintained. Overall, I didn't feel like I got my money's worth and wouldn't recommend this place.
- Mark - 1 star - I had such a terrible experience at Magic Ground Columbia Heights that I regretted bringing my kids there. The play equipment was dirty and broken, and I was concerned about the safety of my children. The staff was unfriendly and unresponsive to our concerns. The overall atmosphere was chaotic and not a pleasant environment for children. I would advise parents to look for alternatives before considering this place.
- Sarah - 2 stars - While the concept of Magic Ground Columbia Heights is intriguing, the execution was poor. The play areas were overcrowded and noisy, making it difficult for children to truly enjoy themselves. The cleanliness of the facility was also subpar, with sticky floors and dirty toys. The lack of organization was evident, as staff members seemed overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the maintenance and supervision that is required in a play center. I wouldn't recommend this place unless significant improvements are made.
