He waited for Muriel to leave and told Gretel to stay quiet. He noticed that the witch had poor eyesight, so he used a bone from a previous child to trick her into thinking that he was not yet ready to be cooked. Day after day, the witch would come and check on Hansel, only to be deceived by the bone. Meanwhile, Gretel was forced to do chores around the cottage. She hatched a plan of her own and found a way to overpower the witch and free her brother. Gretel pretended to be obedient and asked the witch to demonstrate how she could fit inside the oven. Seizing the opportunity, Gretel pushed the witch into the oven and quickly closed the door, burning her to ashes. Finally, the children were free from the clutches of the wicked witch Muriel. With Muriel gone, Hansel and Gretel discovered a treasure chest filled with jewels and gold.
