The plot was interesting and set the foundation for the rest of the series, although I will say that it took a little while to untangle, and there were a few places in the first part of The Witch and the Beast where I felt a little lost despite the flow of the art, and some of the information about what was happening and the characters could have been brought forward to make the beginning a little stronger. However, once the setting and characters and their motivations and backstory started to unfold, the storytelling picked up the pace and brought it all together, and from that point, I was hooked and could not stop reading.

I have to say I fell in love with the art style form the moment I saw the cover, and while the manga itself is in black and white, that does not in any way subtract from the fantastic art-style which manages to balance between elegance and horror.
