in my first newsletter, i mentioned that i’ve had a tarot deck in the works for a while.
it’s called cozy witch tarot & i’m co-creating it with none other than janaina medeiros , the illustrator behind my believe in your own magic oracle deck, as well as a number of my recent poetry collections, including unlock your storybook heart & flower crowns & fearsome things .
i haven’t talked about it much on my public platforms because the release date has been up in the air, & i didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up. tarot decks, which typically have 78 cards (. ), take a lot of hard work, patience, & flexibility to make, especially if you want them done the right way. when it’s finally finished, i know it will be well worth the wait. we’re still not totally certain about the release date, but i’m looking at 2023 on my calendar & feeling very hopeful.
with cozy witch tarot , i wanted to create a deck that felt homey—like putting on an oversized sweater, lighting a yummy candle, & drinking a big cup of tea on an autumn afternoon.
it’s filled with modern witches we can all relate to, whether or not you identify as one. there are witches doing all the typical “witchy” things, like using tarot cards & crystals, doing shadow work, & performing energetic home cleansings; however, there are also plenty of witches just living their simple human lives—dancing, picking sunflowers, & blogging.
some wear witch hats or dress in a way that’s noticeably witchy. many don’t.
in a way, this deck was also created to help normalize witches. being a witch is not one-size-fits-all. we’re everywhere, whether or not the world wants to recognize us. we could easily be your co-worker, your barista, your neighbor, or your loved one.
now that janaina has just one suit left to illustrate, i wanted to share an exclusive sneak peek with you, my lovely subscribers. to my knowledge, none of these cards have showed up online anywhere yet, so you get to say that you were one of the first to see them—how cool is that?!

1. John - 2 stars - I was really excited to get the Cozy Witch Tarot cards because the artwork looked so beautiful and charming. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed when they arrived. The quality of the cards was very poor, with a flimsy and easily bendable paper material. The images were not as vibrant as they appeared online, and the overall printing looked low quality. I expected better given the price.
2. Sarah - 1 star - I found the Cozy Witch Tarot deck to be a big letdown. The illustrations were too cutesy and childish for my taste, making it difficult for me to connect with the cards and their meanings. Additionally, the guidebook included was not very helpful, lacking detailed explanations and interpretations. I would not recommend this deck to serious tarot enthusiasts looking for a more profound and mature experience.
