From Concept to Reality: Designing the 1976 Olympic Mascot

By admin

The 1976 Olympics, held in Montreal, Canada, introduced a new concept to the world of sporting events - the Olympic mascot. This was the first time in the history of the modern Olympics that a mascot was created to represent the games and add an element of fun and excitement to the event. The mascot for the 1976 Olympics was a beaver named Amik. The beaver was chosen as the mascot because it is a significant animal in Canadian culture and symbolizes hard work, persistence, and determination. These qualities were seen as representative of the spirit of the Olympic Games and the athletes who participate in them. Amik, the beaver mascot, was depicted as a friendly and playful character.

Crunchyroll announced the full English language dub cast for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, the latest series in the unstoppable Mobile Suit Gundam series. There's a new series every year with a new story and cast of teenagers in the war forced to pilot giant mech robots designed to look like they wear samurai armour. The Gundams remain the best-designed mecha which is why the model kits and toy sales are through the roof. The big difference with this series is the main character is female, and there's an LGBTQ love story at its centre.

This is the first Gundam series where Haro is voiced by a male voice actor ever since the Bandai Entertainment dubs of the series completion trilogy. That must have been the show itself though because she was cast as Yor in Spy x Family and I can t imagine anyone else bringing one of my favorite anime characters to life.

Amik, the beaver mascot, was depicted as a friendly and playful character. He was shown wearing a red and white shirt with the Olympic rings on it, a symbol of unity and friendship among nations. He also had a prominent tail, which he would use to balance and move around.

English Dub Season Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury

A.S. (Ad Stella) 122― An era when a multitude of corporations entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.

Our Take:

One thing I want to get out of the way that won’t necessarily change how I view the show but does kind of ruin my feelings about it. Bandai Namco decided to “decanonize” Suletta and Miorine’s marriage probably to be marketable in more areas. But one of the things I was prepared to praise them for in this review was the fact that they were willing to go all in on the Yuri themes they kept alluding to. Giving the copout response that they wanted us to come to our own conclusions and make of the ending what we wanted was really disappointing to me. I still think the show was great but endings are important to me and this ruined it a little bit for me.

If this is your first Mobile Suit Gundam series I have to give you a little disclaimer. The endings are not usually this happy, I can think of maybe one other series in this franchise that has a “happy” ending. I don’t want that to dissuade you because this is a fantastic series and one of my favorites but that is just something to keep in mind.

From a technical standpoint, this anime was fantastic and absolutely beautiful. The character models are realistic but just weird enough to give it that Sunrise Studios flavor. As for the voice cast I feel they knocked it out of the park, minor controversy aside. Jill Harris was the perfect pick to voice Suletta. She nails that social awkwardness really well and while I might not have liked the thought of her casting at first she turned me around really fast.

Natalie Van Sistine plays her opposite in Miorine and she might be one of my favorite new voice actors. When I say new I mean more new to me, the first thing I heard her in was Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life! and I wasn’t super impressed. That must have been the show itself though because she was cast as Yor in Spy x Family and I can’t imagine anyone else bringing one of my favorite anime characters to life.

The story was honestly pretty convoluted and I don’t quite understand it. I like how it tries to show that corporations and corporate greed can be just as devastating as corrupt politicians banging the war drum. It was a social commentary that I thought was really interesting and a story worth telling. The problem is that the second half of the series went down a really confusing route.

Look, we usually watch these shows for giant robot fights and those were solid. The characters were enjoyable and the story was just fascinating enough to keep me interested. This was a really fun series I just wish it was longer. With this being the first full Gundam series since Mobile Suite Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans I expected more but it was still a lot of fun and you better believe I am going to buy the model kits.

Crunchyroll is streaming the English dub of this series starting with the first of 12 episodes of the first part of the anime in Japanese with English subtitles on January 30, 2023. [1]

1. Samantha - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the "1976 Olympic Mascot". The design is just so outdated and unappealing. It doesn't represent the vibrant and energetic spirit of the Olympics at all. The colors are dull and there is no creativity in the mascot's appearance. I think they could have done a much better job in choosing a mascot that would truly capture the essence of the 1976 Olympics.
