Last night, I experienced a witching event close to me that I will never forget. It was a chilly evening, and I found myself walking through a dense forest, the leaves crunching beneath my feet. I had always been intrigued by the supernatural and had heard tales of spirits and witches that lurked in these woods. As I ventured deeper into the forest, a strange feeling washed over me. The air grew thicker, and an eerie silence enveloped me. The trees seemed to whisper secrets, their branches swaying in a mysterious dance.
But you throw out all platforming muscle memory with this game. You mainly do three things: Tap Kirby for a speed boost to kill enemies and take their power, tap enemies to stun them, and draw paths for Kirby with the rainbow paintbrush.
I ve dabbled in a few Kirby games over the part 30 years be it on my SNES mini or gameboy but I never sat down and beat a Kirby game start to finish until this title for the DS. Kirby: Canvas Curse delivers classic Kirby action with a fun twist. Using the stylus to control Kirby's movements is surprisingly intuitive, and the new control scheme provides many unique gameplay challenges. The rainbow paths you draw guide Kirby through the game, but they also can protect Kirby from falling icicles, lasers, cannon blasts and other hazards. In addition to drawing paths, the stylus can also be used to stun enemies, destroy barriers, detonate bombs and much more.
Each of the game's seven levels is divided into three stages, and each stage holds three hidden medals. Some are easy to find, while others are either well-hidden or heavily protected. You can also earn medals by completing other tasks in the game. You don't need to find these medals to complete the game, but the medals you recover can be traded in to unlock special features like new ink colors for the paths you draw with the stylus.
Finding all of the medals in the game will be a tough task even for experienced gamers, and a collection of unlockable minigames adds even more replay value to Kirby: Canvas Curse.

I couldn't tear my gaze away, captivated by the powerful presence of these women and the ancient mysteries they were tapping into. In that moment, I realized that the supernatural wasn't just something we read about in books or watch on screens. It was real, tangible, and so close to me. These witches were guardians of ancient knowledge and wisdom, connecting to forces beyond our comprehension. After what felt like an eternity, the ritual came to an end. The women disbanded, disappearing into the forest as though they had never been there. The clearing soon returned to its usual stillness, the bonfire reduced to mere embers. I stood there for a while, awestruck by what I had witnessed. This witching event close to me had opened my eyes to a world that existed parallel to our own, a world where magic and mystery reigned supreme. As I made my way back through the forest, a newfound awareness accompanied me. I felt a sense of gratitude to have been witness to such a spectacle, a glimpse into a hidden realm.
