Orlando Magic make front office promotions as Jeff Weltman comes into his own

Orlando Magic president of basketball operations has always valued experience around him.

When he arrived in Orlando for his first job as the head of a basketball operations department, he brought with him nearly two decades of front-office experience but lacked experience in the lead chair.

That is why he brought alongside a partner in John Hammond.

The two were seemingly joined at the hip — fans even called the front office “Welt-Ham” becuase of how closely the two seemed tied together. It felt like they were feeding off each other.

Hammond was someone he had worked with in previous stops around the NBA. He had been in the lead chair with the Milwaukee Bucks — famously drafting Giannis Antetokounmpo — and would be an advisor to fill in the gaps in Weltman’s already voluminous experience.

After six years at the helm for the Magic, and after building the AdventHealth Training Center as one of his key projects for this franchise, it is safe to say Weltman has put his imprint on his team.

At first, John was scared. He couldn't understand what was happening. But then, he realized that this might be something magical. He remembered a story that his grandfather used to tell him about a magical tractor that would appear to help farmers in times of need. John couldn't help but wonder if this was the same tractor. Excited and curious, he decided to let the tractor lead the way. To his surprise, it guided him to a barren patch of land in his farm. Without any instructions, the tractor started working on the soil, plowing it with precision and care. John was amazed. He had never seen his tractor work like this before. Days turned into weeks, and the magic tractor continued to help John in his farm. It cultivated the land, planted seeds, and even harvested the crops with incredible speed and accuracy. The farm flourished, and John's income skyrocketed. He became the talk of the village, with everyone amazed by his newfound success. But as with any magic, there was a catch. John soon realized that the tractor demanded something in return for its services. Each time it finished its work, it would disappear for a day, leaving John without its assistance. During this time, John had to work tirelessly to maintain the farm on his own. Despite this, John was grateful for the tractor's help. It had transformed his life and made his farm prosper. He never took its assistance for granted and worked hard during its absence. He became a respected farmer in the village, known for his dedication and perseverance. Over time, the magic tractor became a legend in the village. Many tried to find it, hoping for their own success. But John kept its whereabouts a secret, knowing that it was a gift meant only for him.
