Unveiling the Mysteries of Flipped Spells: A Peer's Guide

By admin

Peer at flipped spells is the ability for players to look at the back side of a double-faced card in the game Magic: The Gathering. Double-faced cards were introduced in the Innistrad block and have since become a popular mechanic in the game. The back side of the card typically represents a transformed version of the main card, often with different abilities and characteristics. The peer at flipped spells mechanic allows players to examine the back side of a double-faced card without having to physically flip it over. This is useful for players who need to reference the abilities or characteristics of a transformed card without revealing it to their opponent. In order to peer at a flipped spell, players simply need to hold down the card and tilt it slightly towards themselves, allowing them to see the back side without flipping it over.

The blue guy's freaking out wasn't all that new of a response. People did that a lot around Supers, and Jack-Jack's own unique set of powers had even his family, who was used to such, puzzled at times. Or it had made Dad freak out too.

Little John Robin Hood has a Nostalgia Critic video made on it this week, though it s not surprising, since this year is the movie s 50th anniversary. He pounded his fist on the wall in frustration then glanced down to Ian even as he came down closer to the ground to maybe get a better look at where Jack-Jack had gone and if he had fully teleport-ed or just ghosted through the wall.

Peer at flipped spells

In order to peer at a flipped spell, players simply need to hold down the card and tilt it slightly towards themselves, allowing them to see the back side without flipping it over. This can be done during any point in the game, including during the opponent's turn. This mechanic has been praised by players for its convenience and ease of use.

Flipped Upside-Down (open)

Barley had remembered one of the spells in the book, and dutifully relayed it to Ian. Only, then he'd been called off about a job, leaving Ian to practice his new spell alone.

Somehow, Barley had gotten a call about a job before Ian. He couldn't believe it.

"You must be grounded in body and mind if you want to leave the ground behind. Even though Barley said it's supposed to lift others off the ground. I can do this."

Ian wiggled his body, trying to ground himself. He had decided to try the spell indoors, because he didn't know exactly how the gravity inversion would work. "Contragrava!" Ian shouted, holding the staff out before him. He recalled the various poses Barley had tried with Dad's staff and spell, and it made much more sense now than it had that night. Without knowing the best pose for it, Ian would have to try different ones.

"Contragrava!" Arms forward.

"Contragrava!" Arms up.

"Contragrava!" Arms out.

He decided he must not be grounded enough to work the spell. How could he ground himself? What did that even mean? The fact that there weren't many other people around him didn't occur to Ian as the reason he wasn't seeing results. Unbeknownst to him, the spell wouldn't have affected anyone around him, because he still had the wrong pose.

((For this thread, I'm thinking of someone who could talk Ian through like, meditation? At the very least they must also be willing to be unwillingly affected by the spell once Ian figures out the "correct" way to do it.))

Distracting baby Jack Jack from using his destructive powers was easy once you had enough time to figure him out. He was distracted by novelty things, reading his favorite book, watching his siblings argue, or watching TV. But what was the best way to keep Jack Jack distracted outside while they were waiting on their mother to get food? The one he enjoyed with Dash, of course!

A smirk tugged on one side of the baby super's masked face as John Jackson Parr humorously narrowed his ginger eyebrows in a challenging way, much like his father would (and Jack Jack loved imitating expressions and hand gestures!)

Tzzt! The baby super in red disappeared again, only to teleport himself over several feet away from him in another direction, poking his head out from behind the garbage can. With how fast Dash was capable of changing his directions given his fast reaction time, it just made it all the more fun for Jack Jack! A series of giggles made it known that he had officially initiated the game of peekaboo powers.

Fwip! Jack Jack suddenly traveled into the alternate dimension, where a fit of giggles were all that echoed from the alternate 5th dimension, before Jack Jack reappeared again on top of a tent and making a silly face with his tongue sticking out. He liked being chased, and Dash made it fun since he was so fast!

In and out of the buildings he went through, always popping out his head to peer back at Dash in a teasing way. It was almost like he had seen way too many Scooby Doo cartoons at the hotel.

Yet just as the baby ginger turned his head after tossing his older brother that cocky smile he gave him, the baby super's eyes widened behind the black mask upon seeing someone blue further away in the building! He loved seeing other supers with powers! Needless to say, it distracted him enough from the game that he was playing with Dash, and it kept him from going anywhere else but floating over to the blue guy. He ended up landing in his fluffy hair, then peered upside down at him. "Buh bah..Bluh," He managed to gurgle colors, obviously learning to distinguish his colors from his mom, then grabbed his own tiny feet as he ended up floated upside down at the blue boy's eye level with a giggle. Everyone's face always looked so funny upside down!

Dash rocked on his heels as he waited for Mom to meet back up with them, with some food like she'd promised. Dash hoped they had good food around here, but most parts of the Parks did. Having just finished a job, Mom had probably changed back to regular clothes by now, and Dash was sure he and Jack-Jack would change back before long, but hadn't bothered to do such just yet.

Unknown to him, that was a good thing.

He held Jack-Jack faced away from him, so missed his brother's determined frown before he zapped off!

"Jack-Jack?!", Dash asked stunned, like he always did, even though this was a familiar game by now. That fact proven by the older Parr boy's groan. "No, Jack-Jack, not now. ".

His baby brother reappeared a few feet away and, since he was in his suit, Dash could at least zip after him without fear of showing off his powers too much. Dash didn't know this was exactly what Jack-Jack wanted, and to start up the game of Catch Me, testing his teleportation against Dash's speed.

Jack-Jack disappeared again right as Dash almost caught him. The boy glanced about, not forgetting the air. He heard his brother's echoing giggles from whatever that dimension he entered was and followed them over into the Hall of Presidents.

"Jack-Jack!", he said again as he spotted him, floating above a blue person with a staff. That would be more intriguing after he caught his brother.

Dash zipped up. "No, come down!", Dash said. His brother seemed to obey, coming down on-top of the blue guy's head. "No", Dash sighed. That hadn't been what he'd meant. "Come down here, sorry sir, I'll get him. ", Dash hopped, trying to catch Jack-Jack, but he floated up higher, just by a bit, at the other's eye level it seemed.

Ian sank to the floor, sitting cross-legged, to think. Grounded. Mom seemed grounded. Except when Barley got in trouble with Colt… But she was calm. Settled. Maybe that was it.

Returning to his feet, Ian held the staff before him, one end on the ground. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. ”Contra-huh?” He felt a weight on his head.

Ian opened his eyes to see a baby staring at him. The baby was--floating?!

Part of Ian felt elated--he’d cast the spell! Another part of him was panicked--how did he get the baby down? Ian realized there was another voice, talking to him. Ian glanced around, always returning his eyes to the baby, ready with aloft elevar in case the baby fell. He spotted a younger boy, wearing a mask, staring up at him. "Uh."

Not Ian’s best moment, to be sure, but the baby was floating. He felt a pang of annoyance that he hadn’t finalized the strap for his staff. He carefully reached for the baby, using his feet to hold the staff upright. If the baby fell now, Ian wasn’t sure he’d be able to use his staff to catch him. But, he thought his hands were close enough now…

It occurred to Ian that the baby stayed floating even with Ian not holding the staff. He wasn’t sure anymore that it had been his spell making the baby float. After all, the other kid wasn’t floating.

It was probably not the best thing to feel about his older brother, perhaps given how Dash was also partly the original troublemaker of the house, but Jack Jack had a hard time taking Dash seriously. He simply took delight in the chase because he found it so fun!

Widened blue eyes behind the mask gazed at the blue boy with intrigue upon his face until the upside down floating baby looked below him at his blue hands that he held out. The baby laid in his arms for just seconds, gazing at pointed ears just like he could do in his monster form. Yet before he could desire to copy that, it sadly only took a sneeze that sent Jack Jack up like a rocket all the way up to the ceiling, where his wall climbing powers were suddenly activated and he sat down on the ceiling with a burst of laughter that echoed the auditorium. He then proceeded to shove a hand in his mouth, causing a thick string of drool sliming down below.

Dash watched carefully as the blue guy reached for Jack-Jack. He was closer, and so had a better chance. There also wasn't any danger if he did, he was a kid a bit older than Vi, it looked like; and clearly just trying to help.

And honestly Jack-Jack could do more damage to him than the other way around!

The staff looked sort of neat, and Dash wondered vaguely about it, but didn't see it as the cause of Jack-Jack's floating, knowing his brother could do that all on his own.

It worked! Jack-Jack came down into the other's grip. "Alright! Thanks, I. ", Dash didn't even finish his thought before a sneeze sent Jack-Jack shooting upwards!

"No!", Dash gripped his hair and looked up once more, to where his brother sat on the ceiling, happy as anything. He then grimaced and avoided a dribble of drool.

Glancing down, and around, Dash tried to think.

That was when his gaze landed on the other's staff.

"Hey! Is that thing magic?", Dash asked, even if "Magic" was more the concept of powers not realized, or Dash didn't think of abilities as Magic, as a Super. He still had an idea though. "Could you. float me up? I gotta get my little brother".

The baby didn’t move as Ian reached for him. As the baby settled in his hands, Ian realized he was holding a human bean. And a young human bean! The young bean obviously wasn’t done growing, but since he wasn’t planted anymore, Ian figured he had to be done sprouting, at least. He had to remember to tell Barley!

The young bean sneezed, and Ian lost his grip. The baby shot upward, and Ian let out a strangled cry. In the first place, the baby was now sitting on the ceiling, happily giggling. In the second place, the boy that had come in with the baby didn’t seem as… panicked? as Ian thought he should’ve been. ”He’s on the ceiling! He’s on the ceiling! He’s on the ceiling! Was this a human bean thing?! Did they all do that? Did it take another sneeze to bring them down again? What if they sneezed while they were outside?!

The questions rattled in his brain, and Ian missed the drool. He only noticed when it hit his shoulder, and he grimaced. He had no experience with young elves, and obviously even less with young beans! But drool was drool, and drool was gross. He had nothing to wipe it away with. Eugh.

His attention was now on the drool, wondering if there was some clean-up spell Barley knew, or if he’d have to wait until they did laundry. Probably the latter. The young bean standing next to him asked a question, and it took a moment for Ian to register it. ”I can try. I know a spell that will get you in the air, but it’s hard to control where you go. I was trying a different spell that also might work, but I haven’t figured it out yet. I think.” Maybe it would only work on someone else. After all, the trust bridge had only worked for him. Or maybe it would’ve worked for Barley, too, if they hadn’t had Guinevere… That was something to test.

Ian pointed the staff at the boy. ”Aloft elevar!” Raising the staff slowly, Ian directed the boy upwards.

Jack Jack was far too entertained by the blue guy's reaction to think that he was doing anything terrible. If this was the consequence to doing such an act, then he was heavily rewarded as Jack Jack thrived on getting reactions out of people. His brother may be the one that did pranks, but he was definitely following suit on such a title! The baby's amusement to the blue guy did not cease when the blue guy even reacted to his drool on his shoulder, causing him to giggle as he grabbed his toes with his small hands whilst sitting upside down on the ceiling. Contrast to the worried expression on his older brother's face, there was not a care in the world that Jack Jack felt right now. Thankfully, Jack Jack was intrigued and amused by his older brother talking to the blue guy, or else this would've been the time for him to wander off by now.

Except, a few seconds later, Jack Jack instantly stood up and then began running upside down on the ceiling. He was curious on what that big blanket was on the other side of the room! He had no idea what curtains were, but he just knew that he wanted to touch it.

Upon hearing such an exclamation, the upside down one year old blinked his blue eyes curiously and turned around to peer down at what was going on between the blue guy and his brother. Whatever it was, it sounded more exciting than the giant blanket coming from the ceiling, and Jack Jack always wanted to be a part of the exciting stuff!

He knew of something that might help, though, and that was good enough for Dash. It sounded like the worst that could happen was bumping into a few walls, as he admitted he couldn't control where Dash would go exactly. Not that bad, and worth the risk to try to get Jack-Jack!

Plus Dash had hit his fair share of walls in expanding and exploring his speed, especially when younger.

He nodded to the other to go for it; then looked down at his feet in bewilderment as he floated up! "Whoa!". Focus Dash! Jack-Jack! He reminded himself, and glanced up to his brother, trying to aim himself at him, as much as he could control it. "Ok Jack-Jack. come here. ", Dash tried to keep his voice calm, so Jack-Jack wouldn't run, or think it was all a game.

His own feet next hit the ceiling, and he walked, upside down, towards his baby brother.

Ian had more control than he'd thought. The boy was very relaxed, which helped. And there was no gelatinous cube to add pressure.

As the boy hit the ceiling, he managed to rotate himself to stand on the ceiling. With Ian's attention mostly on the boy, he did catch the younger bean's name. Jack-Jack? Ian thought it was a strange name, but maybe it was a nickname, like Ian's own preferred name. He didn't care much for 'Iandore' after all. Maybe Jack-Jack had an equally traditional name, or his first name was the same as his father's.

Ian realized he'd gotten a bit lost in thought and returned his attention to the boy. "You, uh. You okay?" he asked, wanting some reassurance.

The masked John Jackson Parr was far too enthralled by the sight of his older brother suddenly floating in the air, just like he can! "Dah! Dah! Dah!" He exclaimed with a happy gurgle and a clasp of his little hands together, recalling how his family cheered for him in the race. It was almost as if Dash had learned how to do a new move! He had no idea that this was anything to do with the blue guy.

"Ok Jack-Jack. come here. "

Large blue eyes distractedly watched his older brother touch his feet onto the ceiling and began to walk, just like he could with his wallcrawling. For the one year old, it was only admiration for finding someone that could do similar things that he could, but even more so that it was from his older brother that he looked up to! The sweet beckon of his older brother only enticed the smiling baby to take steps towards his older brother.

Unfortunately, a loud sound announced for the show at the Hall of Presidents about to start, ". THE SHOW WILL START IN 10 MINUTES!"

"Mamamamuh!" John Jackson was so startled by the sudden loud noise that he began to cry for his mother and then bolted running until he phased through the wall into another room, trying to look for his mother for comfort from the sudden fear he had.

"You, uh. You okay?"

"Yeah! Fine", Dash paused in his goal of getting his brother enough to glance down and call down to the blue magician, before glancing back to Jack-Jack and slowly edging his way forward. Jack-Jack began to move towards him, but Dash knew (from being too impulsive at times) not to dart forward and try to grab him. There were many different ways in which Jack-Jack could dart away, some of which including portals, and even if his own limitations being trapped in the parks meant he would eventually be back.

Dash let himself smile though, "Yeah, that's it. good job". Dash carefully reached to take his brother's hand.

THE SHOW WILL START IN 10 MINUTES!

The loud announcement turned Jack-Jack's attention from Dash, but also startled him, causing him to cry and rush off to the side. "No, Jack-Jack!", Dash darted after him, but was just too late. He pounded his fist on the wall in frustration then glanced down to Ian even as he came down closer to the ground to maybe get a better look at where Jack-Jack had gone and if he had fully teleport-ed or just ghosted through the wall.

Probably the other, though Dash still wasn't sure of the distance.

"Quick!", he ran around to where that room should feasibly be to try to see if he could see a way to get his brother. Dad had told Uncle Lucius he could still hear them from the other dimension, and Dash had seen it work himself. "Jack-Jack! It's ok! Come on out!", he called, in hopes of luring him towards his voice. Whether it was a dimension or the other room, it should work,

Ian grinned as the older bean approached the younger. Seeing his spells work, and in such a helpful way, filled Ian with confidence. And he felt calm, relaxed, maybe even grounded--

He'd gotten lost in thought and, while his focus remained on the older bean, he'd stopped paying attention to the younger. The sudden announcement had startled Ian as well, and he jerked the staff, happily in the same direction that the bean had run; the jolt of running forward and being yanked back would undoubtedly be uncomfortable.

Jack-Jack ran off, and Ian moved the staff with his brother, but the younger bean collided with the wall and vanished.

Stunned, Ian let the staff fall, bringing the bean down from the ceiling.

The bean seemed frustrated, but also nonchalant about it? Like he was used to it.

Ian followed, noticing the bean moved faster than he expected, but there was no time to ask about it. He followed the bean's lead in calling. "Uhh. Jack-Jack? Come here, Jack-Jack…" He felt like he was calling for Blazey. "Hey does this happen a lot?"
