The story opens with the funeral of Jez’ and Jay’s grandma. After they get home after this sad event, they discover that the police deputy is waiting for them. He barges into their home, does a search without cause, turns everything upside down and leaves. Jez and her family have just had a tragic event happen in the family, and now they face the harassment of the law. While things are as they are, we discover that Jez’ grandma and now her uncle did rootwork. That is, they took roots and herbs and plants and other exotic ingredients and made medicines out of them or made potions out of them to help people in their everyday lives. Some of these potions were for protecting their houses and families. Jez’ uncle wants to teach Jez and Jay how to do this and initiate them into the mysteries of rootwork or rootmagic. The extraordinary, unexpected magical things that happen after that form the rest of the story.
But the novel is also set during a specific historical period the fall of 1963 and so these supernatural elements play out against an equally vivid backdrop of real historical events, including the assassination of President John F. Root Magic successfully blends mystical elements with historical ones for a novel that explores Gullah culture as well as the social upheavals of the 1960s.

For fans of Tracey Baptiste’s The Jumbies, this book, with its rich language and evocative setting, is a great addition to the literature based on folklore that has sustained many people of color in their island communities.

I found the Curse Forge Launcher download to be quite disappointing. The installation process was unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming. Additionally, the launcher itself had a clunky interface and was not very user-friendly. I also encountered a number of bugs and glitches while using the launcher, which made my overall experience quite frustrating. I expected a better performance from such a popular gaming platform, and I hope they address these issues in future updates.

I really regret downloading the Curse Forge Launcher. It took forever to install and kept giving me error messages throughout the process. Furthermore, the launcher was extremely slow and laggy, making it a pain to use. Overall, I had a terrible experience with the Curse Forge Launcher and would not recommend it to anyone.

I had high hopes for the Curse Forge Launcher, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The download itself was problematic, with the launcher freezing multiple times during installation. Once I managed to get it running, I found the user interface to be cluttered and overwhelming. It was difficult to find the specific mods I was looking for, and the organization of the launcher left a lot to be desired. On top of that, I experienced frequent crashes and performance issues while using the Curse Forge Launcher. I hope they work on improving these aspects in the future, as it has the potential to be a great platform for mods.
