Hasbro criticized for lack of sustainability with magic toys

By admin

Hasbro, the multinational toy and board game company, has recently made headlines for its decision to stop including plastic clamshell packaging in its Magic: The Gathering card sets. This move is seen as a significant step towards reducing plastic waste and environmental impact. Magic: The Gathering is a popular collectible card game that has been around since 1993. In the game, players use decks of cards representing magical spells, creatures, and artifacts to defeat their opponents. Each card set comes in a plastic clamshell packaging, which is meant to protect the cards during shipping and handling. However, these clamshells are not recyclable and often end up in landfills, contributing to the global plastic waste problem.

By eliminating the clamshell packaging, Hasbro is taking a stand against plastic waste and embracing more sustainable practices. Hasbro forsaking magic in landfill

This new packaging is not only more environmentally friendly but also more convenient for consumers. The decision to eliminate plastic clamshells aligns with Hasbro's commitments to sustainability and corporate responsibility. The company has a long history of reducing its environmental impact and has set ambitious goals for the future, including achieving 100% recycling or recovery of packaging materials by 2025. By making this change in its Magic card sets, Hasbro is taking a significant step towards achieving these goals. The move also reflects a growing trend among consumers and companies towards more sustainable and eco-friendly practices. In recent years, there has been increasing awareness of the environmental impact of plastic waste, particularly in the ocean. As a result, many consumers are becoming more conscious of the packaging choices made by companies and are actively seeking out products with minimal or recyclable packaging. By forsaking plastic clamshell packaging for its Magic: The Gathering card sets, Hasbro is demonstrating its commitment to reducing plastic waste and embracing a more sustainable future. This decision not only aligns with the company's goals and values but also reflects a broader shift towards more environmentally friendly practices in the toy and gaming industry. As consumers continue to prioritize sustainability, it is likely that other companies will follow Hasbro's lead and make similar changes to their packaging choices..
