In a world where you can buy just about anything from anywhere at any time, we had grown tired of coming to your store just to get lost in the aisles, fighting for a must-have toy. For heaven’s sake, you were the retail leader in the toy and game business, and a shopping trip to your store felt like a battle to be endured. Bad planograms, poor customer service, no wayfinding, those ridiculous Geoffrey dollars, and a suboptimal checkout experience – not to mention an online effort that was too little, too late. It seems as if you just failed to keep up! I guarantee that an inviting, interactive – dare I say “fun”? – shopping experience at your stores and online would have gone a long way in helping consumers to resist going elsewhere, even if prices were better. Consumers will jump over a competitor, even with better pricing, to stay loyal to a brand they love – and, well, people fell out of love with you. So, we congratulate you on the seasonal store openings, the partnership with Target, and all of your efforts to come back to us. I hope you find success. But for me, I have moved on, and while some fond childhood memories of your brand will always remain (after all, we are both from Wayne, New Jersey), I think you missed your opportunity to stay relevant. Once you have broken the bond of customer loyalty, it is very hard to regain it.
