Once upon a time, there was a witch named Witchiepoo who resided on Living Island. She was a character from the popular children's television show, "H R Pufnstuf." Witchiepoo was known for her wicked ways and her constant desire to capture the lovable dragon, H R Pufnstuf, in order to become the ruler of the island. Witchiepoo had a bizarre appearance, with her tall black hat, green skin, and long nose. She was always seen wearing a black dress and carrying a broomstick, which she used for flying around the island. Children watching the show would often find her antics comical rather than scary, as Witchiepoo's plans were continuously foiled by H R Pufnstuf and his friends.
In February 16th 2015, before filming started, director Masaiuki Ochiai, actresses Taira Airi and Misaki Saisho (Kayako) and Kai Kobayashi (Toshio) attended the purification ceremony and the first press release, where the title was first announced the upcoming film was discussed. The story is mirrored in The Grudge 2 , as the sister Aubrey and Mai of a previous, deceased victim Karen and Yui goes in search for her, crosses paths with the grudge curse and eventually dies from it too. Following the events of Ju-on The Beginning of the End, Mai, the older sister of elementary school teacher Yui Shono, goes to look for her sister, who disappeared after a year while working in an elementary school.

Through their unity and kindness, the characters in the show conveyed important moral lessons to young viewers.
