Easy DIY witch hat made from felt: a creative Halloween project

By admin

Creating a DIY witch hat out of felt is a fun and easy project that allows you to customize your own unique Halloween accessory. The process requires a few basic materials and can be completed in a short amount of time. First, gather your materials. You will need a sheet of felt in the color of your choice, a cone-shaped object to use as a template, such as a party hat or cardboard tube, scissors, a needle and thread, and any additional decorations you would like to add, such as ribbons or feathers. **To begin, place your cone-shaped template onto the felt and trace around it**. This will be the base of your hat.

I don t think it s necessarily because of the candy but because of all the fun events like carnivals, pumpkin patch outings and trunk-or-treats that go on this month.

This will be the base of your hat. **Make sure to leave extra room around the tracing to account for seam allowance and the cone's height**. Once you have traced the base, **cut along the lines to create a circle**.

DIY Witch Hat

The kids have been so excited it’s hard not to be SO excited myself. I don’t think it’s necessarily because of the candy but because of all the fun events like carnivals, pumpkin patch outings and trunk-or-treats that go on this month!!

My daughter, Lily, is especially excited to be dressing up this year and I decided to make her a cute and simple DIY Witch hat from felt. She was excited for me to make it, so I headed to Michael’s to pick up all the supplies. The best part of all was that it ended up costing just a few dollars and is the perfect addition to her witch costume. What I also love is that it’s a great piece to wear on it’s own if YOU want to be a little festive without dressing up a ton. In fact, I think I’ll be wearing it when Lily’s not looking. 😉

Here is what you’ll need to make this adorable DIY Witch Hat…

SUPPLIES:

– Black Felt (2 large pieces) – found at Michael’s

– Embellishments (spiders and crows) – found at Michael’s

– Hot glue gun and sticks

DIRECTIONS:

1. Gather all your supplies.

2. Trace a circle onto your large piece of felt (I used a plate). Cut out and cut half way through the circle.

3. Wrap the felt around until it makes a cone. Cut off the excess.

4. Cut another cirlce a little bit larger than the base of your felt cone. I used the glitter black felt that is more stiff for this.

5. Hot glue the cone to the glitter felt. I hot glued lace around the rim to make it more festive and to hide the hot glue.

6. I then hot glued some spiders and a crow to the hat.

7. From there I cut out a piece of felt (I made mine a heart just because) and hot glued it to a headband we had.

The whole project took just a half hour to do and cost just a few bucks – SCORE!!

And doesn’t Lily look adorable?! LOVE it!!

Start by prepping your E-6000 FabriFuse. When it is first opened, there is a protective seal that must be removed. My favorite way to do this is with the end of straight pin by sticking it in then pulling the covering gently off with the pin.

Then, **cut a straight line from the edge of the circle to the center**. This will allow you to create the cone shape of the hat. **Fold the semi-circle into a cone shape and overlap the edges**. Use a needle and thread to **sew along the overlapped edges, securing the cone shape**. **Next, create a brim for your hat**. This can be done by using the remaining felt to cut out a larger circle. **Cut a smaller circle from the center of the larger circle to fit the size of your head**. This will form the opening of the hat. **Attach the brim to the base of the cone** by folding the edges of the brim under and sewing it onto the base with the needle and thread, making sure it is secure. Once you have completed the main structure of the hat, you can **add any additional decorations** you desire. **This can be done by sewing on ribbons, gluing on feathers, or even incorporating glitter or sequins**. **Lastly, try on your DIY witch hat and make any necessary adjustments**. If the hat is too loose, you can add an elastic band to the brim or add additional stitching to tighten the fit. In conclusion, creating a DIY witch hat out of felt is a simple and enjoyable project that allows you to showcase your creativity and personalize your Halloween attire. Whether you are looking to complete a witch costume or simply want a unique accessory, following these steps will help you create a one-of-a-kind hat that is sure to impress..

Reviews for "Step-by-step tutorial for making a witch hat out of felt"

1. Sarah - 2 stars - I was really excited to try this DIY project, but I found the instructions for creating a diy witch hat out of felt to be confusing and unclear. The steps were not well-explained, and I struggled to understand how to shape the hat correctly. Additionally, the materials list was incomplete, and I ended up having to make multiple trips to the store to gather everything I needed. Overall, I was disappointed with the lack of clarity and organization in this tutorial.
2. John - 1 star - This DIY witch hat tutorial was a total failure for me. First of all, the measurements provided were completely off, and my hat turned out to be way too small. Secondly, the felt material recommended in the tutorial was flimsy and didn't hold its shape well. It ended up looking more like a floppy party hat than a witch's hat. I followed the instructions step by step, but the final result was far from satisfactory. I would not recommend this tutorial to anyone looking to create a DIY witch hat.
3. Emma - 2 stars - As someone who enjoys arts and crafts, I was really disappointed with this tutorial on creating a diy witch hat out of felt. The instructions were not detailed enough and skipped over important steps. Additionally, the tutorial assumed the reader had prior knowledge and experience with sewing and working with felt. I found myself struggling to keep up and had to refer to other online resources to complete the project. Overall, this tutorial lacked the clarity and beginner-friendly instructions that I was hoping for.
