October is a time for witchy holidays and mystical celebrations. With Halloween just around the corner, many people are embracing their inner witches and indulging in magical festivities. This month is filled with traditions, rituals, and activities that celebrate the spooky and mysterious. One of the main witchy holidays in October is Samhain, which is widely celebrated by pagans and witches. Samhain marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year. It is a time to honor ancestors, connect with spirits, and embrace the cycle of life and death.

Magic of Lights in Brandon opens Friday

BRANDON, Miss. (WLBT) - The holiday season is right around the corner, and you can brighten up the season by participating in the annual Magic of Lights show in Brandon this month and next month.

You will get a chance to check out classic holiday favorites including Winter Wonderland, the 12 Days of Christmas, and Toyland all from the comfort of your own vehicle.

A sea of lights with all sorts of cool designs are the sights all around the Brandon Amphitheater.

Everything ranging from Barbie, and dinosaurs to big monster trucks on display as 3 On Your Side got a sneak peek.

“It’s a very pleasant drive through the woods to look at Christmas lights,” Brandon Mayor Butch Lee said. “It’s great to team up with a quality group like Magic of Lights. There are only 19 of these in the United States this year, and we want that to be a tradition here in Central Mississippi. It draws from Alabama, North and South Mississippi, and Louisiana and it’s just a good time to get it started before Thanksgiving and it’s not very expensive to come out here at all.”

He says this year, you will see an additional one million lights added to the drive-thru spectacular and an extended route that’s 2.5 miles long.

There will also be lights on display inside the Amphitheater which is called the “Holiday Village.”

You will see 35-foot Christmas trees and a Santa Claus inside who will know if you have been naughty or nice.

“It’s an economical thing to do,” Mayor Lee said. “Put all the family in a car, go to the nursing home, and get your grandmother, and your grandfather out. Spend time with them and just enjoy a moment.”

The light show will begin Friday night at 6 p.m. and go on all the way through December 31.

You can also purchase tickets here or you can purchase them at the gate at the Brandon Amphitheater.

It is a time to honor ancestors, connect with spirits, and embrace the cycle of life and death. During this holiday, people often hold ritual ceremonies, create altars, and participate in divination practices. Another popular witchy holiday in October is Mabon, also known as the Autumn Equinox.

Beautiful bright lights on display for Magic of Lights 2022 in Brandon

BRANDON, Miss. (WLBT) - It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. at least in Brandon.

Beginning Friday, The Magic of Lights show will be on full display - more than two million lights showcasing all of your favorite Christmas themes and stories.

“Imagine a young boy or young girl waking up on Christmas morning and the look in their eye when they look at what’s underneath that Christmas tree,” described Mayor Butch Lee. “That’s what this storyline is all about.”

Lee says it took about three weeks to put up the lights.

The way it works is you ride along a trail spanning a mile-and-a-half. On each side you have colorful lights blinking and dancing at you.

And they’re all telling familiar stories.

“I would like to say to all those moms and grandmoms out there: you better get your books out and you better learn the 12 Days of Christmas and T’was the Night Before Christmas, because those stories are going to be told here as you drive through this Christmas lights program,” stated Lee.

Over the next six weeks while the show is in town, roughly 20-thousand cars are expected to navigate their way through the vibrant trail.

Lee says he expects everyone to come and leave filled with holiday cheer.

“This is all drive-through. There is no stop, so just turn your lights off as you come in. There is a ticket office in the very front parking lot, there is a place to pull over if you want to get children out of the car seats. It is open every day, 5:30 basically until 10:30, even though we’ll go later than that. If people are in line, we’re going to keep letting them come in.”

The Magic of Lights will be in town for a while. It’s here until New Year’s Eve. Tickets are $19 online, $25 at the gate.

The number of people in your car doesn’t matter, so you are encouraged to bring as many people as you can to be a part of the fun.
