What keeps Ben and other characters around him from blooming into people we find interesting is that The Wretched doesn t focus enough on their intertwining relationships. But the thing about The Wretched or any other film opening with the bloody murder of a kid is that the film lets us know anything goes, and no one is safe.

The Cannibalistic Witch of The Wretched

2020 is a weird year. On March 23 rd, my state decided to lockdown. It’s only been recently that I even felt any semblance of safety in leaving the house at all and even then, it comes with a mild amount of anxiety. It’s not so bad though. I’m catching up on my bookshelf of Criterion discs. I beat Ghost of Tsushima in a few weeks. I made my vinyl collection something to be proud of. Still, I miss my friends and the movie theater. No one really wins in this pandemic, but if there were winners, they were movies like The Wretched.

The Wretched premiered on VOD and theaters back on May 1 st costing a modest $66,000 to produce. Due to it being one of the very few titles being released and the resurgence of drive-in cinema, The Wretched topped the box office for six straight weeks. To date, the only other film to top the box-office for six consecutive weeks is Avatar. Not bad company at all. The film has gone on to make $3.1 million, almost 47 times its production cost.

One theory suggests that the wretched witch's unique ability to walk on two legs may be attributed to a spell or curse that was placed upon her. It is hypothesized that this curse was meant to strip her of her magical abilities, leaving her with only the ability to walk like a human. However, there is a lack of concrete evidence to support this theory, leaving it open to speculation and further exploration. Another school of thought proposes that the wretched witch's ability to walk on legs may actually work to her advantage. While flying may provide a swift and efficient means of transportation, walking on legs could provide a level of stealth and inconspicuousness that flying cannot achieve. In a world where witches are often ostracized and feared, the ability to blend in with humans may offer a level of safety and protection that other witches do not possess. The wretched witch from the western region with legs serves as a captivating and intriguing character that challenges traditional depictions of witches. Her unique ability to walk on legs opens up a world of possibilities and raises questions about her origins, abilities, and the nature of magic itself. Regardless of the true explanation behind her unconventional abilities, one thing remains clear – the wretched witch is a figure that continues to captivate the imagination and spark curiosity..

1. Bob - 1 star - I cannot express how disappointed I was with "Wretched witch from the western region with legs". The story was convoluted and hard to follow, with a jumble of characters and a lack of cohesive plot. The writing style was also confusing and at times seemed amateurish. Overall, I found this book to be a complete waste of time and would not recommend it to anyone.
2. Emily - 2 stars - While "Wretched witch from the western region with legs" had an interesting concept, the execution fell flat for me. The characters lacked depth and development, making it difficult to connect with them on any level. Additionally, the pacing was slow, and the story seemed to drag on unnecessarily. Unfortunately, I found myself losing interest and struggling to finish the book. Overall, it had potential but failed to capture my attention or leave a lasting impression.
