The WITCH KING by Martha Wells hints at a promise of political intrigue and mystery as well as action and adventure. It delivers on the former as Kai begins a journey to discover who trapped him and why. However, it flounders on the latter whereby the action and adventure feel more like a lazy river happenstance collision.

Instead this story takes place over a relatively short time and it consists of flashbacks to the past coupled with slow-moving, nearly actionless events in the present. After being murdered, his consciousness dormant and unaware of the passing of time while confined in an elaborate water trap, Kai wakes to find a lesser mage attempting to harness Kai s magic to his own advantage.

"I had high hopes for The Witch King Adventure, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The pacing was uneven, with some parts dragging on while others felt rushed. Additionally, the world-building was minimal, leaving me with a lack of understanding about the setting and its creatures. The dialogue felt forced and unnatural, making it hard to believe in the interactions between the characters. All in all, this book failed to immerse me in its fantasy world."

"I cannot express how much I disliked The Witch King Adventure. The plot was predictable and lacked any originality. The author relied heavily on cliches and tropes, making the story incredibly dull. The characters were one-dimensional and lacked any real depth or personality. The dialogues were cringe-worthy and felt forced, and I found myself rolling my eyes during most of the interactions. I would recommend skipping this book if you're looking for a captivating and unique fantasy adventure."
