From #1 New York Times bestseller Cassandra Clare and award-winner Wesley Chu comes the first book in a new series that follows High Warlock Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood as they tour the world after the Mortal War. The Red Scrolls of Magic is a Shadowhunters novel.
All Magnus Bane wanted was a vacation—a lavish trip across Europe with Alec Lightwood, the Shadowhunter who against all odds is finally his boyfriend. But as soon as the pair settles in Paris, an old friend arrives with news about a demon-worshipping cult called the Crimson Hand that is bent on causing chaos around the world. A cult that was apparently founded by Magnus himself. Years ago. As a joke.
Now Magnus and Alec must race across Europe to track down the Crimson Hand and its elusive new leader before the cult can cause any more damage. As if it wasn't bad enough that their romantic getaway has been sidetracked, demons are now dogging their every step, and it is becoming harder to tell friend from foe. As their quest for answers becomes increasingly dire, Magnus and Alec will have to trust each other more than ever—even if it means revealing the secrets they've both been keeping.
Perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Holly Black and Sara J. Maas.

Reviews for "The Blood Red Scrolls: A Hidden Treasure of Ancient Knowledge"

1. Katherine - ★☆☆☆☆
I was really excited to read "The Blood Red Scrolls of Magic" as a fan of Cassandra Clare's other works. Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. The plot was incredibly slow and lacked any real depth or excitement. The characters felt one-dimensional and lacked the complexity I usually associate with Clare's writing. Additionally, the romantic relationship between Alec and Magnus felt forced and unnatural. Overall, I found myself struggling to get through this book and ended up feeling disappointed.
2. Ryan - ★★☆☆☆
"The Blood Red Scrolls of Magic" was a letdown for me. The pacing was inconsistent, with moments of action dragged out unnecessarily and other important plot points rushed through. The world-building was lacking, and I found it difficult to connect with the settings and understand the dynamics of the magical world being presented. Furthermore, the dialogue felt cheesy and forced, with characters spouting off clichés and predictable lines. While I appreciated the representation of LGBTQ+ characters, I wish their relationship had been given more depth and nuance. Overall, this book felt like a missed opportunity and didn't live up to my expectations.
3. Laura - ★★☆☆☆
I was disappointed by "The Blood Red Scrolls of Magic." As a fan of the Shadowhunter Chronicles, I had high hopes for this book, but it didn't live up to its predecessors. The pacing was slow, and the plot felt repetitive and unoriginal. The characters, especially Alec and Magnus, lacked the depth and complexity that made them so appealing in the earlier books. The action scenes were poorly executed and left me feeling underwhelmed. While I appreciate Clare's attempt to expand the world and include diverse relationships, the execution felt rushed and superficial. Overall, this book didn't capture my attention or leave a lasting impression.
