Porcelain Inlays & Onlays

Inlays are used to fill a hole in a tooth that has been caused by decay or the tooth has broken. We offer ceramic or reinforced resin as an alternative to amalgam, providing a natural, tooth coloured solution that not only looks great but assists with strengthening the affected tooth.

Inlays and onlays are long-lasting, natural looking alternatives to fillings. Made from zirconia and ceramic porcelain (or alternatively gold) for strength, they are custom made to fit and fill most types of cavities. The tooth coloured options will match the natural colour of your own teeth.

Unlike conventional fillings, which require large amounts of healthy tooth to be removed, inlays and onlays on need the damaged portion of the tooth to be removed. Porcelain inlays and onlays are an aesthetic alternative and they look exactly like the rest of your natural tooth.

Inlays and onlays protect and restore large portions of the decayed tooth, much like a large filling. An inlay covers more of the inside decayed part of the tooth and an onlay covers some of the inside but also more of the outer structure of the tooth. Because they are made with porcelain, they are customized to your natural tooth shade and look like your natural tooth. Porcelain inlays and onlays are made from the same strong, tooth coloured material that is used for crowns and bridgework. A customized shade makes them virtually undetectable.

Porcelain and Resins Veneers

Porcelain veneers closely resemble tooth enamel, and when bonded over your existing front teeth, are incredibly strong and durable.

Before placing you porcelain veneers, the dentist prepares each tooth by removing tiny amounts of enamel from the tooth surface. Once each tooth has been prepared, an impression of the teeth is taken, from which we create your custom made veneers. The disadvantage of porcelain veneer are …cannot repaired easily, and small tooth structure has to be removed.

Resin Veneers are made of a wafer thin tooth coloured material or putty like resin is moulded onto the tooth and shaped, the light then used to harden the resin. Then the final resin will be finished, trimmed and polished.

We always offer either porcelain or composite resin for this treatment to provide you with a result that looks and feels just like your natural tooth.Both could be placed on the front of your teeth for a perfect smile. Advantage of resin veneer are….. Easy to apply for small areas, tooth preparation are not normally required, it is a one visit technique, not required impression, can be easily repaired, and less expensive option than porcelain veneer.

WILL THIS PROCEDURE WORK IF I HAVE CROWNS OR VENEERS?

Teeth whitening specifically works on tooth enamel. It doesn't change the colour of dental work such as crowns and bridges, veneers or fillings, although it may lift stains from their surfaces.

DOES TEETH WHITENING DAMAGE TOOTH ENAMEL?

Studies of teeth whitening products using 10% carbamide peroxide showed no effect on the hardness or mineral content of a tooth's enamel surface.

WILL TEETH WHITENING REMOVE ALL STAINS?

Most stains can be removed using this procedure. However, there are times where a certain patient’s teeth don’t respond like they should or a particular stain won’t come out. When this is the case, we offer dental veneers that can be placed on top of stained teeth to improve their appearance.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

There can be a feeling sometimes of minimal heat. This is the usual cause of discomfort. On rare occasions tingling or sensitivity during and after may occur with some patients. On average 90% of patients experience no discomfort.

COMMON POST WHITENING INSTRUCTIONS

It is advised to stay away from coloured food such as red wine, curry, coffee, cola, dark sauces, berries etc. for 3 days after the whitening treatment. After 72 hours you can continue with your usual diet.

Went to make a crown with Dr. Sam around 1 year ago. The crown fell off, it shouldn't fall off after only a year. . Called the reception on 27th April and she said will message or call back and never did till now. Went to 3 different dentist for consultation and they all said the placement of one of the screw/post was wrong and so it broke the teeth. Now my teeth can't be saved and needs to be extracted. The crown itself was trimmed down so much that the top became flat and there's a hole in the middle of it. During the fitting last year, I have to come back several times as the crown doesn't fit as they don't have the modelling machine so it had to be sent to the lab everytime. Hugely disappointed with the quality and service as the cost of making crown with Dr. Sam is not cheap compared with other dentists. read more

UPDATE: Mascot Dental Centre were made aware of the situation via this google review and offered the crown procedure at a heavily discounted rate given the misunderstanding. They have apologised, assisted in rectifying the unnecessary expenses and done what they can to keep me as a returning client. Much appreciated.I presented to Mascot Dental Centre in February 2022 with ongoing issues associated with one tooth and it’s failed fillings and uncomfortable sensitivity. To date, I have spent upwards of $1,600 at the clinic (not including what private health covered) for check ups, failed fillings and X-rays, having only recently agreeing to a root canal treatment on this tooth. During this treatment, a fragment of the file that they use broke off in a canal. Because of this, I was referred to a specialist endodontist to attempt to resolve the issue and finish the root canal. I understand there are risks and these things can happen, but the fact that there was no apology or discount offered on the incomplete work, as well as no discussion of potential costs if referral was required, left me quite disappointed. All up now, after specialist treatment, I have spent $4,500 on a tooth that was giving me grief in February and I’m yet to have a crown put in place $$$. The staff are lovely, but no one who has to fork out this much money on one tooth can be impressed.

Dr Haidy Bastorous is amazing! The rest of the staff are also very well accomodating. I’ve had a few visits over the past year for cleaning and a tooth extraction where local anaesthetic was involved. They gave me enough to not feel anything and comforted me through the whole process. I also had to book a last minute cleaning to prepare for my Invisalign treatment with my orthodontist and had to book a different dentist whom I forgot the name to apologies. She was able to treat me was exceptional as well! Overall, I am always satisfied with the service the staff at Mascot Dental Centre have provided me. Thank you!
