Scrotie: The Unexpected Legacy of a College Hockey Mascot

By admin

Scrotie the mascot emblem was a controversial and unique figure in the world of sports. Born out of the creative minds at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Scrotie represented the unofficial mascot of the RISD Nads, the school's intramural hockey team. The creation of Scrotie was a bold move, as the character was meant to embody the spirit of irreverence and boundary-pushing that RISD is known for. **Scrotie the mascot emblem**, inspired by the school's mascot, Ram, was a deliberately absurd and controversial interpretation of a genitalia symbol. With a phallic-shaped head, testicles for a body, and a cape emblazoned with an "R" (representing the RISD Nads), Scrotie proudly donned his bold and attention-grabbing appearance at hockey games and other RISD events. While traditional mascots tend to be fierce or friendly animals, Scrotie intentionally deviated from this norm to challenge societal expectations and spark discussions around gender, sexuality, and the limits of artistic expression.

Magic happens when the heart, mind, soul and body work in unison

I recently hosted a customer of ours who retired recently. He and his wife had come down for their son's graduation and I had an opportunity to host dinner for them. The couple have 12 children. The eldest is graduating from college and the youngest is in third grade. He had run many marathon's and his wife decided six weeks before a marathon that she would run a full marathon. Everyone she knew advised her not to embark on this, since she needed to train for a longer period of time. She told me that "I have committed that - I would do this marathon in six weeks and once I made that commitment, nothing on the face of earth could change that decision". Two weeks into the training she called for a family council and in the family council she shared that

"She was pregnant but would keep her promise of running the marathon"

On the day of the marathon the entirely family took their 15 seater van and followed her on the marathon route with the expectation that she would give up midway and that they would pick her up at that point. She not only completed the marathon but did it in 4 hours and 20 minutes. I was speechless after hearing this and asked her how did this magic happen and her response left such a big impression on me. Here is her response:

1) Once I make a commitment to do anything, then I have to keep it. I know that this one was going to be difficult but I also know that God will be there with me all through.

2) This is an example I set for my children and turning to her son she said "this is the example you should set for your children as well"

3) She ran the race saying that "I will get through the first 30 minutes" and just kept adding 30 additional minutes knowing that her faith will help her achieve the goal she had set out for herself

If this is possible then anything is possible as long as we put our minds to it. Magic happens when the heart, mind, soul and body work in unison.

Sharing it with all of you as we welcome FY 21. A dose of inspiration. Very best.

Reviews for "Scrotie and the Spirit of College Athletics: A Qualitative Study"

1. John - ★☆☆☆☆
I found the mascot emblem for Scrotie incredibly offensive and distasteful. It was vulgar and inappropriate, and not something that should represent a sports team. The design was crude, and it lacked any creativity or thoughtfulness. It seemed like a cheap attempt at shock value rather than something that would actually promote team unity and pride. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the choice of mascot emblem for Scrotie and believe it should be replaced with something more appropriate.
2. Sarah - ★★☆☆☆
I can understand that the intention behind creating the Scrotie mascot emblem might have been to be edgy and provocative, but I personally found it to be in poor taste. It was offensive and offensive to the point where it distracted from the actual sports team it was supposed to represent. I believe a mascot emblem should be something that brings people together and evokes a sense of pride, but Scrotie does the opposite. It alienates and disturbs many people, including myself, and I think the team should consider a redesign.
3. Mike - ★☆☆☆☆
The Scrotie mascot emblem was an absolute embarrassment. It was offensive, crude, and not at all appropriate for a sports team. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw it. It made me question the judgment and professionalism of whoever allowed it to be the mascot emblem. I believe a mascot should be something that people of all ages can enjoy and support, but Scrotie only served to alienate and disgust many fans. I strongly believe that a change is necessary and that the Scrotie mascot emblem should be retired immediately.
4. Emily - ★★☆☆☆
As a loyal fan of the team, I was disappointed and shocked when I saw the Scrotie mascot emblem. I understand that it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and provocative, but it missed the mark completely. It was just outright offensive and did not reflect the values and spirit of the team. I found it distracting and it took away from the actual sportsmanship and camaraderie that should be celebrated. I hope that the team reconsiders the choice of mascot and chooses something more suitable and respectable for their image.
