Change the University of San Francisco Mascot!

The Associated Students of the University of San Francisco (ASUSF) Senate has officially passed their resolution calling to change the University of San Francisco mascot!

In the fall, following an article published in the San Francisco Foghorn, the ASUSF Senate held their Town Hall for the undergraduate student community to attend, including representatives of all Undergraduate Student Organizations, regarding the appropriateness of our mascot. The conclusion from the student leaders in the room was unanimous: the “Don” mascot does not represent the University of San Francisco community. Thus, the ASUSF Senate took action and passed a resolution on behalf of the undergraduate student population at USF calling to change our mascot.

This resolution calls for a task force of students, staff, and administrators to be formed at the start of the 2023-2024 academic year to work through necessary logistics of this change, such as what the new mascot should be, and the Don mascot shall be officially null and void by the start of the 2024-2025 academic year.

IT WAS DONE IN 1931. LET’S DO IT AGAIN.

But, this resolution passed by the ASUSF Senate is just the first step to implementing this change: it is the formal document outlining the arguments for changing the mascot, to be sent to the USF Board of Trustees. This resolution passed with the support of every Chartered Student Organization. Now, it is time for us, the USF community to mobilize and show support for this change. The louder we are, the more people we mobilize, the more likely the university will hear our voices. We need YOU to use YOUR voice.

We encourage you to sign this petition on behalf of yourself, or as a representative of your organization. We encourage you to include a comment demonstrating your support for this cause. Share this petition with fellow USF friends, students, professors, and community members:

Reviews for "The Popularity and Recognition of the San Francisco Dons Mascot in the Sports World"

      1. John - 2/5 - I am not a fan of the San Francisco Dons mascot. I find it to be quite outdated and uninteresting. The mascot itself is a donkey, which seems like a strange choice for a sports team. Additionally, the design of the mascot is not very appealing. It lacks creativity and fails to capture the spirit of the team. Overall, I think the San Francisco Dons mascot could benefit from a redesign that is more modern and visually appealing.
      2. Emily - 1/5 - The San Francisco Dons mascot is just plain boring. The donkey costume itself is lackluster and doesn't bring any excitement to the games. It feels like the mascot doesn't make an effort to engage with the crowd or add any energy to the atmosphere. I would love to see the team come up with a more dynamic and enthusiastic mascot that truly represents the spirit of the San Francisco Dons. As it stands, I don't find the current mascot to be entertaining or memorable in any way.
      3. Mark - 2/5 - The San Francisco Dons mascot is not very memorable or impactful. It lacks the creativity and appeal that other mascots bring to their respective teams. The donkey costume is outdated and doesn't seem to resonate with the fans. While it's always important to have a mascot, the San Francisco Dons should consider revamping theirs to make it more engaging and representative of the team. A mascot should be able to rally the crowd and create a sense of excitement, but unfortunately, the current mascot falls short in delivering on that front.
      4. Laura - 2/5 - I have to say, the San Francisco Dons mascot is quite underwhelming. The donkey costume lacks charm and fails to capture the attention of the audience. It feels like the mascot is just going through the motions without truly connecting with the fans. It's disappointing since a mascot can play a crucial role in boosting team spirit and creating a memorable experience for the spectators. I believe the San Francisco Dons could benefit from a more vibrant and engaging mascot to truly enhance the game-day experience.
      5. Michael - 1/5 - The San Francisco Dons mascot is forgettable at best. The donkey costume is outdated and uninspiring. It doesn't bring any energy to the games or make a lasting impression. I've attended multiple events where the mascot was present, and it failed to create any excitement or engage with the crowd. I think it's time for the San Francisco Dons to consider a complete overhaul of their mascot to better represent the team and create a more memorable game-day experience for the fans.
