Luego de un receso de 12 años la legendaria banda Menudo vuelve ser noticia con el anuncio de una convocatoria que busca nuevos integrantes en varias ciudades del mundo a través de la página www.menudo.com.
La convocatoria, que estará abierta a partir del lunes 8 de agosto, busca talentos de muchachos entre 12 y 16 años de edad. Más tarde hará audiciones en vivo en Miami, Ciudad de México, Colombia y Puerto Rico, cuyos videos más destacados serán presentados y comentados por Mario López, socio del proyecto, en Access Hollywood y otros espacios de la televisión.

Menudo tuvo entre sus miembros más conocidos a Ricky Martin, Robby “Draco” Rosa y Jhonny Lozada. Fue fundado en 1977 en Puerto Rico por el productor Edgardo Díaz.
El grupo, que dio origen al fenómeno de la menudomanía, logró vender más de 20 millones de discos en cinco idiomas, abarcando mercados tan disímiles como el de Japón y Filipinas.

Vale recordar que, junto con el éxito que acompañó a los intérpretes de Súbete a mi moto durante sus años de gloria, la agrupación fue centro de una controversia originada por las acusaciones de explotación infantil y abuso sexual en contra del productor, Edgardo Díaz, un tema que se abordó en Menudo: Forever Young, la serie documental que no hace mucho estrenó HBO Max.
El equipo de administración y entrenamiento del nuevo Menudo, con sede en Miami, estará compuesto por profesionales experimentados y de larga trayectoria.
Para el veterano de la industria de la música Ángel Zamora, que supervisa el proyecto, “trabajar con Mario López, Paul Tarnopol y el equipo de administración completamente nuevo de Menudo para descubrir y desarrollar la próxima generación de superestrellas, es un gran honor”.
Por su parte, el CEO de Menudo Productions, Paul Tarnopol, destacó que al utilizar las redes sociales, Menudo se conectará con los fanáticos de maneras inimaginables.
