The project LIFE AT THE WITCH TRAILS is based on the idea of creating »living« structures through sound using video material from x/y-stereo displays. These oscilloscope-like displays visualize the phase changing from 2-channel audio signals. The audio source is a visually composed sound arrangement that can only be generated through visualization. The motion dynamics it consists of are completely dependent on sound. Complex »cathode ray objects« are generated allowing a direct (not delayed) visual access to even the smallest acoustic details of the composition. The conversion of the audio signal’s electrical current into deflections of the stereo display’s cathode ray is carried out by analogue technology and therefore without perceptible delay. The generated images are not limited by the pictures-per-second time frame usually used in TV and computer technology. The aural and visual senses are connected directly and the term visualization of sound is given new meaning. Three successively tuned sound compositions and their visualizations will be produced simultaneously in full HD resolution video guaranteeing the highest possible richness of detail.
