Murph and the Magic Tines: How Music Can Transform Lives

By admin

Murph and the Magic Tines is a captivating children's book written by Kathy Brodsky and beautifully illustrated by Cameron Bennett. The story revolves around a little elephant named Murph who embarks on a magical adventure with his best friend, Miss Kay, and her trusty cat, Lightning. Murph is a curious and imaginative elephant who stumbles upon an ordinary pair of tines, not knowing that they possess magical powers. As he discovers the secret of the tines, he realizes that they have the ability to transport him to different places and help him solve problems. Throughout the story, Murph and his friends encounter various challenges and obstacles that require them to use the magic of the tines to overcome them. They visit enchanted forests, flying islands, and meet extraordinary creatures.

I can't say how many times I have watched it. One of the best scenes is where Will and his best friend Chuckie argue over the fact that Will wants to continue his life in South Boston despite the fact he is a math prodigy (on top of a lot of other things). Chuckie tells Will: "You don't owe it to yourself, man. You owe it to me. Cuz tomorrow I'm gonna wake up, and I'll be 50, and I'll still be doin' this shit. And that's all right. That's fine. I mean, you're sittin' on a winnin' lottery ticket. And you're too much of a pussy to cash it in, and that's bullshit. 'Cause I'd do fuckin' anything to have what you got. So would any of these fuckin' guys. It'd be an insult to us if you're still here in 20 years. Hangin' around here is a fuckin' waste of your time." In some ways, Chuckie is speaking to all of us—we all have our own lottery tickets, yet we are afraid to cash them in. We continue doing what we are doing rather than doing something different—even though it would mean creating the life we want. And don't tell me you're not a math prodigy. You got through law school- you have incredible talents. It is time to show the world how "wicked smart" you are and go after your dreams. What can you do today to move forward?

I like the part of that where Affleck/Chuckie tells his best friend "You know what the best part of my day is. for about ten seconds. " It's about 2:30 in from here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv7eeMikM_w Setting the stage for this scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49TeSoo4Sx8

I absolutely agree!! I, too, love this film and have watched and enjoyed it countless times. It continues to inspire and teach me. We must gather up our courage and step outside of our comfort zones to share our unique gifts. We must.

So true - particularly this from your post: We continue doing what we are doing rather than doing something different—even though it would mean creating the life we want. Thanks Sheila Murphy

What a great &*(ing movie. I love so many moments, including the exchange with Robin Williams, the exchange at the Harvard Bar about "Robert Wood." Today, I have a day long intensive with a client. We were due to start work at 10 am, but the rain has delayed everything. She is on the west side highway somewhere. So my growth today is "we will make it work" out of my control

I just re-watched this movie earlier this week. We stand in our own way. Once in a while we all need a "Chuckie" to remind us that.

Murph and the magic tines

The illustrations by Cameron Bennett perfectly capture the whimsical and magical elements of the story, bringing Murph and his friends to life. One of the standout features of Murph and the Magic Tines is its ability to inspire young readers' imagination and creativity. The story encourages children to think outside the box, find solutions to problems, and embrace their own unique qualities. Overall, Murph and the Magic Tines is a delightful children's book that combines adventure, friendship, and magic in a heartwarming way. It is a perfect choice for parents, teachers, and librarians looking to inspire young readers and spark their imagination..

Reviews for "Murph and the Magic Tines: A Musical Adventure That Sparks the Imagination"

1. Jane - 2/5 - I was really disappointed with "Murph and the Magic Tines". The story felt disjointed and rushed, with little development for the characters. Additionally, the writing style seemed off, with clunky dialogue and awkward descriptions. I found it hard to connect with the protagonist or feel invested in their journey. Overall, I was expecting more from this book and was left underwhelmed.
2. Mark - 1/5 - I couldn't stand "Murph and the Magic Tines". The plot was predictable and uninspired, with cliched twists and turns that offered no surprises. The characters lacked depth and their motivations were shallow. I struggled to finish this book as it failed to engage me or hold my interest. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a captivating and well-executed fantasy novel.
3. Sarah - 2/5 - I found "Murph and the Magic Tines" to be mediocre at best. The world-building was minimal and lacked the richness and detail necessary to immerse the reader. The pacing was also uneven, with slow moments that didn't contribute much to the story. The dialogue felt forced and unnatural, making it difficult to connect with the characters. This book simply didn't resonate with me and I wouldn't choose to read it again.
4. David - 1/5 - "Murph and the Magic Tines" was a letdown. The writing felt amateur and the plot was uninspiring. I struggled to stay engaged as the story didn't offer anything new or exciting. The magic system was poorly explained and inconsistent, leaving me confused and disconnected from the narrative. Overall, I found this book to be a forgettable and unremarkable read.
