One of the primary magical connotations of vibrant shades is their association with energy and vitality. A Curse of Shadows and Ice Review

I hope everyone has had a good week so far. This year I am trying to be more positive, stress less, and not let things get to me (this is a lot of work). I found that I have been having better days by trying to control how I react, which again is a lot of work, but I am trying. Any who I have a book for you that is kind of like a beauty and the beast retelling with more to it.

From USA Today Bestselling Author Catharina Maura comes a Beauty and the Beast retelling featuring a cursed emperor, a princess who possesses forbidden magic, and a marriage that could save them all.

Princess Arabella of Althea is left no choice when Felix Osiris, the Shadow Emperor, threatens to overthrow her country unless she agrees to marry him.

When she learns his empire is cursed and she’s destined to set them free, they come to an agreement: help him minimize the curse’s effect on his people, and he’ll let her go.

As Felix teaches Arabella how to control her forbidden and volatile magic, her feelings for him turn from hatred to passion… and she realizes that she must break the curse, or she’ll lose him forever.”

I will admit the first thing that drew me to this book was the cover, but the description is what sealed the deal for me. This is the first book in a series, and it is great. Arabella has a rough childhood, but she is not afraid to stand up for herself and those she loves. Felix is one of those characters that you immediately root for. This book is told from both characters viewpoints and has everything you love about Beauty and the Beast in it. There is magic, romance, and revenge. Now I will advise of a trigger warning, there is some abuse in this book for the main character, but if you can get past that, then you will love this amazing book!

The personal journeys of Ash and her savant companions are set against this backdrop of world-threatening events. Savants gain their power from raising “phantoms” that are usually animistic in form and reflect an aspect of the savant’s being, which is key to their power. Ash has been raised a non-savant and trained as a cleric, but at the end of Crown, readers learned that she is, in fact, a savant, with a very powerful phantom. One that has been deliberately suppressed by her guardian and mentor.
