The raven magic trick

Ive had my raven + DVD a day or two and am starting to get used to it. It is tricky to master. I was wondering if any of you users had any litle tips/techniques that you use to resolve any problems with the original raven i.e clinking, catching etc. Or if you have any new methods/uses, be it vanishes, productions etc..

Much appreciated, thanks a lot

Don't use it. I'm sorry I think you just wasted your money there. The raven (unless used at the right time and situation) isn't very good because many people concider it to be a stand alone trick. If you just make the coin vanish then everyone will wonder where it went. But if you incorporate it into a full coin routine then at the end do an "ultimate" vanish for a nice ending then it would suit the situation more. By doing this after a full coin routine people know that you can make the coin vanish, but after you make it vanish from their hand they realize that it is real magic because it's not just trickey sleight of hand, but it can happen in their hands.

Don't just use this as a trick, use it to make the coin magic that you are already doing seem more magical.

I strongly disagree David. The raven is great, as long as you come up with something different than the coin vanish from the back of the hand. This is a great trick, but over done and exposed, so you might come across someone who knows its secret. I like to vanish dollar bills with this. I'll give you a hint, use a watch battery, and slip it under the dollar, then play around until it looks just right. You can also vanish caps from the tops of bottles, move spoons with your mind, there are great effects, only limited to one's imagination, all possible with the raven.

Over done and exposed. Ive never met ANYONE who had the slightest idea of how to do the Raven. Maybe it depends on where you live but this is definitely not true in my area. Although I agree you should do more than just the coin vanish with the Raven, just doing that is still great. And keep in mind, you can re appear things with the Raven as well. (In response to people wondering where it went.)

About the clinking; I wouldnt worry about it. Just have some patter durring the vanish and they shouldnt hear a thing. I don't really think it will cause you any trouble.

Certain coins and objects clink more than others, but I've never had a noise problem. As for overdone, I meant because of Blaine, many lay persons w/ enough interest and money to support their interest went to magic shops and asked about that trick. It was also exposed on national televison (some street magic thing that exposed the tricks that DB used on his specials) so it's better to be safe, and come up with something new, than it is to be sorry.

Not sure how it works out on the street, but the Raven seems to get the best reactions whenever I use it, No one has even the slieghest clue at what happens!

There was this one time that I slung a coin from the specs hand and that was really interesting to see, " HE DID NOT TOUCH MY HAND AND THE COIN FLEW! " I was like. . . Eh. . . Okay I ment to do that!

I don't suggest the raven if they know your a magician, or if you have doubts. And by the way, everyone says it sucks. If used right it makes for some awesome effects!

I am working on one now, where I vanish the coing over a table just by brushing my hands together, My mother, My sister-in-law and my brother ( test audiance ) says that it is really visual and kicks ---!

Tips for the sleeve method. If you want to use a shirt not a jacket it will be a bit difficult because of that pocket that the coat has your shirt wont have.

* Make the raven tight on your finger tip; not to tight that your finger is all white, but maybe just the tip of it is slightley discolored.

* wear Darker clothing

* Hold it where the sleeve is straight, or release it when your arm is straight out.

Hope these helped.

Get yourself some shim (very thin steel sheet)
You can cut this into any shape and put a touch of wax on it for a quick stick shim.
Good effects can been done with a magnetic coin & raven.
Use it to charge other items with a temporary magnetic charge.
Make a trip device, where magnet pulls a trigger in a device to activate an effect.
Use those flat brown fridge magnet patches for some jumping effects. They can be cut-up into shapes and painted, or hidden in an object.

I was thinking of buying The Raven. how easy would you say it is to do? And can it be performed impromptu, or does it need preparation?

Posted: Jun 23, 2004 01:45 am

It needs preparation alright, and there are also some recomended clothing restrictions when performing it. If you have a 'brake', you can re-set it in about 5 seconds, in fact I've reset mine behind my back while retrieving my wallet.

Another way to perform the Raven without having to go through the painful setup would be to palm it; and after vanishing the coin you could muscle pass it into a topit, or a pocket.

The Raven Magic Trick Revealed

The Raven is a type of magic trick that revolves around a disappearing coin, and involves placing a coin on the magician's hand and then making the coin disappear by waving the magician's other hand over the coin. The magician waves the hand three or four times over the coin, making it vanish on the last time over. The magician then turns both hands over multiple times to show that the coin is not there. So where did the coin go?

Another option is to attend a magic performance at a bar or nightclub. Many bars and clubs host regular magic nights, where magicians perform up close and personal, often mingling with the audience and performing tricks right at your table. These intimate performances are a great way to experience magic up close and get a real sense of wonder.

Setting Up The Trick

The Raven trick revolves around two objects. The first is a fake coin that is actually made of steel and plated to look like a coin. The other is a magnet attached to an elastic band with a clip at the other end and a string that is practically invisible. Clip the elastic band to your belt or inside your shirt sleeve. For beginners, it is best to wear a black jacket or something with long sleeves, but experts can pull the trick off even with short sleeves. The invisible string at the magnet's other end has a loop at the end. Hook this loop onto a finger. The magnet should now be positioned on the palm of your hand near the bridge of your thumb.

This can be a unique and memorable addition to any event, and a great way to create a sense of wonder and excitement for your guests. So, if you're looking for some adult magic performances nearby, consider checking out a theater, attending a magic night at a bar or club, or even hiring a magician for a private event. No matter which option you choose, you're sure to be entertained and amazed by the incredible talents of these magicians!.
