About the Author
MARY POPE OSBORNE is the author of the New York Times number one bestselling Magic Tree House series. She and her husband, writer Will Osborne (author of Magic Tree House: The Musical), live in northwestern Connecticut with their three dogs. Ms. Osborne is also the coauthor of the companion Magic Tree House Fact Trackers series with Will, and with her sister, Natalie Pope Boyce.
SAL MURDOCCA has illustrated more than 200 children's trade and text books. He is also a librettist for children's opera, a video artist, an avid runner, hiker, and bicyclist, and a teacher of children's illustration at the Parsons School of Design. 1. Emily - 1/5 stars - I really didn't enjoy "Dark Magic Enthusiast". The plot was predictable and lacked originality. The characters were flat and lacked depth, making it hard to connect with any of them. Additionally, the writing style was dry and unengaging. Overall, I found this book to be a major letdown and would not recommend it to others.
2. Alex - 2/5 stars - I had high hopes for "Dark Magic Enthusiast", but unfortunately, it fell flat for me. The pacing was inconsistent, with moments of action followed by long stretches of slow and uneventful storytelling. The world-building also felt underdeveloped, leaving many unanswered questions. While the concept had potential, the execution left a lot to be desired.
3. Julia - 2/5 stars - As a fan of fantasy novels, I was excited to read "Dark Magic Enthusiast", but I ended up feeling disappointed. The protagonist was unlikable and made questionable decisions throughout the story. The dialogue also felt forced and unnatural, making it hard to immerse myself in the narrative. Overall, I found this book to be a lackluster addition to the genre.
