The Role of Cosmetics in Creating a Positive Body Image

By admin

Cosmetics are more than just magic. They are a powerful tool that can enhance our natural beauty, boost our confidence, and express our individuality. While some may dismiss cosmetics as frivolous or superficial, they actually have a profound impact on our self-image and well-being. The main purpose of cosmetics is often seen as enhancing our physical appearance. Makeup, for instance, can help to hide blemishes or imperfections, give the illusion of smoother skin, and enhance features such as eyes, lips, and cheekbones. It allows us to present ourselves to the world in a way that aligns with how we want to be seen.

Makeup is Not (Just) Magic: A Manga Guide to Cosmetics and Skin Care Review

Most days, I don’t wear much makeup; usually I just stick with some foundation and a bit of tinted lip gloss. While I do enjoy getting all gussied-up on special occasions, I would rate my level of makeup knowledge as being pretty basic and I don’t typically do a lot of experimenting with my look.

Despite this, I actually own a LOT of makeup, as I worked at the head office of a drug-store chain for many years and frequently received free samples from the various vendors that we dealt with. Since I have such a vast collection of products, I was excited to read Ikumi Rotta’s Makeup is Not (Just) Magic and, hopefully, get some tips on how to make better use of my makeup.

Ikumi Rotta used to work as a Beauty Consultant and still posts about her passion for makeup on social media, where she frequently answers her followers’ questions about using beauty products. That seems to be where the idea for this manga guide-book came from and each chapter of Makeup is Not (Just) Magic is focused around answering a question regarding makeup in a manner that’s accessible to beginners. I found the directions to be easy to follow and the cheery tone of the text and the cute art-style helped to make this a pleasant read. It you’re a novice when it comes to makeup and are looking for a fun way to acquire a rudimentary foundation of knowledge, then this manga would be a great place for you to start.

I didn’t know swiping the mascara brush from side-to-side increased the thickness of your lashes.
I’m going to have to try that!

If you consider yourself to have an intermediate or high level of beauty knowledge, however, then this manga probably won’t have a lot to offer you. I was able to pick up some useful tricks and tidbits during my read, but most of the manga focuses on the fundamentals of makeup and skin care, so I doubt makeup enthusiasts will find anything in these pages that they don’t already know. Even I already knew a fair bit of what was covered in this manga, and, as I already established, I’m far from being an expert on the topic.

While Makeup is Not (Just) Magic contains some interesting information and helpful suggestions, I would have enjoyed seeing a few more advanced pieces of advice sprinkled in for readers who already have the basics covered. If you’re new to using makeup and are looking for some guidance, however, I’d recommend giving this manga a read, it’s a very encouraging and non-judgmental place to start.

Final Score: 7.5 out of 10

Cosmetics are more than just magic

When we look in the mirror and see a person that we find beautiful, it boosts our self-esteem and makes us feel more confident. This newfound confidence can have a ripple effect on other areas of our lives, from our personal relationships to our professional endeavors. Additionally, cosmetics provide us with a means of self-expression. Just as we use clothing to convey our personal style, cosmetics allow us to create different looks and moods. From a bold red lip that exudes confidence to a soft, natural look that enhances our features, our choice of cosmetics can reflect our personality, mood, and creativity. Furthermore, cosmetics have the potential to be a form of self-care. Taking the time to apply skincare products or indulging in a pampering beauty routine can be a way of nurturing ourselves and prioritizing our well-being. It is a time to slow down, focus on our own needs, and engage in a self-soothing ritual that can bring comfort and relaxation. In conclusion, cosmetics are more than just magic. They are a powerful tool that can enhance our natural beauty, boost our confidence, and express our individuality. Whether we use cosmetics to create a flawless complexion, experiment with different looks, or simply take care of our skin, they play a significant role in shaping our self-image and overall well-being. So let us embrace the transformative power of cosmetics and celebrate their ability to make us feel beautiful, confident, and empowered..

Reviews for "Beauty as a Political Statement: Cosmetics and Activism"

1. Michelle - 2/5 - I was really disappointed with "Cosmetics are more than just magic". The book promised to provide a deep dive into the world of cosmetics and explore its cultural impact, but instead, it felt like a shallow overview. The author focused more on listing popular cosmetic products and brands without offering any valuable insights or analysis. I was hoping to learn about the psychology behind our fascination with cosmetics, but that aspect was barely touched upon. Overall, this book lacked substance and failed to live up to my expectations.
2. John - 2/5 - "Cosmetics are more than just magic" turned out to be a major letdown for me. I was looking forward to a thought-provoking exploration of the beauty industry's influence on society, but instead, I found the book to be superficial and lacking depth. The author touched on various topics, but only at a surface level, without delving into the underlying issues. It felt like a missed opportunity to truly analyze the cultural impact of cosmetics. Additionally, the writing style was dry and uninspiring, making it a chore to read through. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone seeking a profound understanding of the subject.
