Exploring the Dark Magic of the Burning Rune in ESO

By admin

The burning rune in the game Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is a powerful and visually striking ability that players can utilize in combat. This ability belongs to the Dragonknight class and is a part of their skill line called Ardent Flame. When activated, the burning rune conjures a fiery sigil on the ground, creating a hazardous area for enemies. Any adversaries who enter the rune's radius will be dealt fire damage over time. This makes the burning rune an excellent tool for area denial and controlling the battlefield. Additionally, the burning rune has a passive effect called Combustion.

Even if it isn't possible or makes sense for the direction of this skill to make its damage anything other than fire, the skill still would benefit from some more utility being added. While we do have multiple sources of Minor Force, from the traditional Barbed Trap and Channeled Acceleration to sets like Tzogvin's and the current version of the new mythic, I think it would still be a valuable buff to this skill given Mage's Guild acts as a Magicka mirror to Fighter's guild. Scalding Rune in particular functionally mimic barbed trap at least and adding Minor Force to at least that morph would, if nothing else, open up the skill slot barbed trap fills on some builds for something more aesthetically in line with mage characters.

That being said, I think the original idea in this post would be very interesting, with the damage type being dependent on type of weapon being wielded, such as Flame, Frost, and Shock being aligned with Destructions staves and Magic damage being the new default or something along those lines. Additionally, the burning rune has a passive effect called Combustion. This passive causes enemies who are affected by the burning rune to have their spell resistance reduced. This makes the burning rune even more potent against magic-based enemies, as it weakens their defenses and increases the damage they take.

Fire Rune/Scalding Rune Skill rework?

Any chance we could get a rework for the Fire Rune/Scalding Rune skill from the Mages Guild to scale with our destruction staffs an possibly become something such as Frost Rune or Shock Rune, I feel a skill rework like this could definitely help out with a lot of builds that would like to utilize this ability an not strictly have it be for Flame Damage alone, but maybe Frost or Shock Damage.

i really doubt they'd do this. as much as i like the idea and i want more frost damage availiable to warden, you actually get a ton more dps from the burning proc and the 6% increased flame damage from dk. the only thing that this would realistically effect if it were to swap damage types is make frostbite and netch's touch slightly less bad if you used it with them, but would still massively tank your damage.

The flame damage burning proc really isn't too noticeable on other classes unless your actually running a dk, plus with a rework to scale with destro staff like frost or lightning, those sets such as netch touch or frostbite would actually have another ability to utilize in its selection; I dont feel like DKs should be of the very few classes that gets to benefit from an ability apart of a skill line so broad as the Mages Guild.

The only concern I have with such a change would be removing it as a useful tool for BOTH Wardens and Sorcerers looking to use Elemental Catalyst as outside of Scalding Rune they only have access to Flame damage one other way and that way would already be taken in using Shock and Frost Destruction staves to achieve those elements on Wardens and Sorcerers respectively.

i honestly think that minor force should be applied in group by sorc healers to help them be useful in a group in a reworked morph for healing, needing to use barbed trap or an annoying channel from channeled acceleration to get minor force is incredibly frustrating. warden also has a frost rune we apply on the ground and one of it's morphs is an utter meme that we've been begging to get reworked into a damage morph for a while now.

yes, but scalding rune cracks at most like 4% of your damage including the extra burning proc. you're losing 6-11% damage done on the ability in group by swapping it's damage type due to encratis and engulfing as well as extra burning proc which is helpful to have uptime on while everything else is ticking. it's inclusion by itself wouldn't do much to make frostbite better let alone the terribly awful sets of netch's touch and ysgramor's birthright

Burning rune eso

As players progress and invest skill points into the Ardent Flame line, they can unlock and morph the burning rune into different variations, each with its unique effects. These variations include Extended Chains, where the rune will also immobilize enemies for a brief period, and Consuming Trap, which absorbs the health of affected enemies and heals the player. To effectively use the burning rune, strategic placement is crucial. Players should aim to position the rune in chokepoints or areas where enemies are likely to gather. This maximizes the potential damage and control it can provide. In group scenarios, the burning rune can be combined with other abilities to create devastating combinations. For example, a Dragonknight can cast the rune and then use abilities like Dragonknight's Standard or Ash Cloud to further trap enemies within its area of effect. In conclusion, the burning rune in Elder Scrolls Online is a potent ability that allows Dragonknights to control the battlefield and deal fire damage over time to their enemies. With its passive effect reducing spell resistance, it becomes even more effective against magic-based foes. Proper placement and combination with other abilities can lead to devastating results..
