Exploring the Mysterious World of Witch Themed Bedrooms

By admin

A witch themed bedroom is a unique and enchanting concept for those interested in magic and mysticism. This theme allows you to transform your sleeping space into a whimsical and bewitching sanctuary. To create a witch themed bedroom, start with the color scheme. Deep and dark hues like black, purple, and burgundy are commonly associated with witches and create a mysterious atmosphere. Consider painting the walls in a deep shade of purple or hanging dark patterned wallpaper to set the mood. Accents and decorations are essential for achieving the witchy vibe.

All four of the major western Christian denominations (the Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Calvinist and Anglican churches) persecuted witches to some degree. Eastern Christian, or Orthodox, churches carried out almost no witch-hunting. In England, Scotland, Scandinavia and Geneva, witch trials were carried out by Protestant states. The Spanish Inquisition executed only two witches in total.

WHY ARE WITCHES ASSOCIATED WITH HALLOWEEN?

As with many festivals and traditions, Halloween can trace its roots back to the Druids – the Celtic peoples who lived in Ireland more than a millennia ago.

The Celts believed that Halloween, known then as Samhain, was the night that the veil between the spirit realm and the living was at its thinnest, allowing spirits and other supernatural forces to descend and cause mischief or harm. To the ancient Celts, people were transformed into cats as a punishment for their bad deeds. Those unfortunate enough to be cursed by black magic were also turned into cats, particularly black cats.

Catholic conversion

It doesn’t end there. After Roman take over, the Catholics began converting the Celts. The two belief systems merged. The church turned witches - those that ancient peoples looked to for wisdom and medicine - into devil worshiping hags. It was believed that witches could turn into cats (more black cat connections) and other animals such as bats and spiders. These companion creatures are what we now call familiars!

It wasn’t until the 1400s that witch hysteria spread across Europe. More than 100,000 were accused of witchcraft with upward of 50,000 being executed – most via hanging, but those killed during the Spanish Inquisition were burned at the stake.

Witch hysteria

America’s witch scare, which culminated in the infamous Salem Witch Trials were largely the end of the mass hysteria and killing of accused witches. While there were autumn festivals that included the telling of ghost stories and other such creepy traditions, it wasn’t until the influx of Irish immigrants that came to America in the 19th century that Halloween as we know it today began to take root. The mixing of Irish and English customs – jack-o-lanterns, costumes, going door-to-door asking for money – led to the current incarnation of Halloween.

Many young women especially believed that Halloween was the best day for divination and would often seek out fortune tellers to find out the names of their future husbands. This mashup of traditions and beliefs across millennia led to witches becoming a symbol of a holiday celebrating the macabre.

I personally love witches and witch stories. Witches fly in the face of societal expectation and convention – after all its always the young girl, the old midwife, the loner woman – who is accused. I see them as feminist symbols of power. From Hocus Pocus, to The Crucible, The VVitch and American Horror Story, there is no shortage of intriguing stories of the power of magical women. It was this history and this media that led me to release the Coven Collection and I hope to expand on it in the future.

Hang witchy artwork or tapestries featuring symbols such as moons, stars, pentacles, and mystical creatures like owls and black cats. Make sure to include plenty of candles and fairy lights in your witchy oasis. Opt for candles in dark or dramatic colors, like black or deep red, and place them in enchanting candelabras or candle holders. String fairy lights around the room to create a magical glow that sets a magical ambiance. Consider adding a witch-themed canopy or curtains around the bed to create a cozy and mystical space. Opt for luxurious fabrics like velvet or lace to enhance the witchy feel. Hang a dreamcatcher or other protective talismans above the bed for extra charm and protection. Textiles play a significant role in creating a witchy bedroom atmosphere. Incorporate velvet, lace, and satin fabrics into your bedding, curtains, and pillows. Opt for dark or deep colors, patterns with moons, stars, or mystical symbols, and luxurious textures to enhance the witchy vibe. Lastly, don't forget to add some witchy accessories to complete the theme. Hang a broom on the wall or place it in a corner, display a witch hat on a shelf or dresser, and keep a collection of spell books within reach. You can also incorporate plants like herbs and dried flowers, as they are often associated with witchcraft and can add a touch of nature to your bedroom. Overall, a witch themed bedroom allows you to embrace your inner witch and create a space that feels mystical and enchanting. By incorporating the right color scheme, decorations, lighting, textiles, and accessories, you can transform your bedroom into a magical sanctuary fit for a witch..

Reviews for "How to Incorporate Crystals and Energetic Elements in Your Witch Bedroom"

1. John - 1 star
I was extremely disappointed with the witch themed bedroom. The décor was tacky and cheap-looking, and it felt more like a Halloween store than a well-designed bedroom. The use of dark colors and unconventional furniture made the room feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable. I also found the presence of witch-related items, such as broomsticks and cauldrons, to be distasteful and slightly offensive. Overall, I would not recommend this themed bedroom to anyone looking for a cozy and visually appealing space.
2. Emily - 2 stars
The witch themed bedroom was not what I expected at all. While I appreciate the effort put into the design, the execution fell flat. The room felt cluttered and overwhelming, with an excessive amount of witch-themed decorations and trinkets. The choice of black and purple as the dominant colors made the room feel dark and gloomy, rather than enchanting. Additionally, the bed was uncomfortable and the bedding felt scratchy. Overall, I would not choose to stay in this witchy bedroom again.
3. Samantha - 2.5 stars
The witch themed bedroom had potential but did not deliver. The concept was interesting, but the execution lacked finesse. The room felt disjointed, with conflicting design elements that did not come together cohesively. The witch-themed decorations were overwhelming and made the room feel cluttered. I also found the choice of creaky old furniture to be unsettling rather than charming. While I appreciate the effort to create a unique experience, this themed bedroom fell short of my expectations.
