Slinky dog from Toy Story might just be our best Halloween costume yet. It’s funny, it’s cute, and it was actually very easy and inexpensive to put together. Getting the twins to walk together in the same direction however, might be another story. I am thinking it will be part fiasco and part a good time! But at least we will have a good laugh trying. To create this costume you can easily just purchase two pre-made dog costumes. However I found most of the ones available in stores and online look more like labradors or golden retrievers. Slinky Dog is actually a Daschund and in an effort to be as realistic as possible, I decided to create the costumes from scratch. And here’s how you can do it to:
- two “bear” suits or any fluffy brown sherpa suit
- puppy ears and a tail
- a jumbo size plastic slinky
- two sets of dark brown pajamas
- scissors
- gray or silver pray paint
- green turtle neck
- safety pins
- optional: mascara or black paint for the nose
Next, cut the arms and legs off the bear suit. I then followed behind with my sewing machines and finished off my seams but if you don’t have a sewing machine you can leave off this step and still be fine. Hand sew the tail to the back of one of the bear suits. The suit that has a tail will need a small hole cut right around where the belly button would be in front to insert one end of the slinky. The other bear suit (the one WITHOUT the tail) will get the hole cut out right at the same level but on the backside of the suit.

Whoever is in the front will also have a green turtle neck to will be Slinky’s “collar.” I cut just the neck part off of an old turtle neck but you could get a green turtle neck onesie and wear it underneath.
