The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse is a platform video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1992. Developed by Capcom and Disney Interactive, it is based on the magical adventures of the famous Disney character, Mickey Mouse. In The Magical Quest, players control Mickey as he embarks on a journey to rescue his friends from the evil emperor Pete. Throughout the game, players will explore various worlds filled with platforming challenges and enemies. Mickey can defeat enemies by jumping on them or by using his magical abilities, which include throwing objects and the power to turn into different costumes. One of the unique aspects of The Magical Quest is the introduction of different costumes for Mickey.
Graphically, Magical Quest is a very beautiful game. Each level features lush backgrounds and a variety of enemies and art. The framerate is solid with no slow down or frame skipping. The only minor drawback is that a few of the levels are sort of dark in places. You can choose to play the game with Mickey or Minnie Mouse (who was not in the SNES game), but this is only a cosmetic difference since it doesn’t directly affect gameplay at all. The sound is good, but not all that dynamic. Consequently, it pours out of the GBA’s speaker with no problem, but using headphones won’t add any significant dimension (other than privacy) to the experience.
Surprisingly for this kind of game, Capcom has gone the extra mile and added a multiplayer component this is probably why Minnie was added to the game. Mickey s mission is to save his dog Pluto, who s been kidnapped and kept inside emperor Pete s castle, in a magical land, guarded by mysterious creatures.
One of the unique aspects of The Magical Quest is the introduction of different costumes for Mickey. Each costume grants him different abilities that can be utilized to overcome specific obstacles. For example, the firefighter costume allows Mickey to shoot water and extinguish fires, while the magician costume enables him to use magic spells to defeat enemies and solve puzzles.
